Hi!!! So I applied by the January 1, 2016 deadline. Any others out there?
1 year of ER experience, prior career as dietitian with emphasis on nutrition education and counseling. 3.7 Nursing GPA. Just wanted to give it a try!
IcapNICU_RN:
The official letter that congratulated me on admission to the program for Fall 2016, contained the following paragraph in the FAQ's section:
"2. How are students placed for clinical?
Students will be expected to locate their own clinical rotations with faculty approval. For each clinical site, the School of Nursing must have an agreement with the clinical agency before a student can start clinical. The SON does have a limited number of existing clinical sites, but applicants can expect to arrange their own preceptors/clinical sites as a student-driven process."
This contradicts what is written on the MSN website and what is contained in the "UTHealth School of Nursing MSN Preceptor Handbook" which is linked on the MSN homepage.
I am particularly troubled by this because I am a transfer student from out of state and I do not know anyone in Houston, nor do I have any professional contacts there. I would not have wasted my time and money applying had I known this is how they run things. This is a bait and switch in my opinion. I am currently enrolled in a program that requires students to find their own preceptors, and this is a significant hassle and a lot of stress on the students here. If UT has the same policy then I may as well stay where I am. I didn't sign up for this noise.
I think that things are not quite ready yet for the Summer students, the classes still have day, time, and textbook as "TBA". My E-value has not had any items verified yet, nor has my drug screen been entered. I was hoping to register tomorrow to try to get both classes as "in-person" instead of having one online and one in-person. Has anyone had their "nursing admissions hold" removed yet? Please update if any of you are able to register tomorrow...

IcapNICU_RN, I received a document that said we have to find our own preceptors.
