Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:
Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75
Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0
Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.
My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -
Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30
Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! )
Overall Gpa: 3.28
Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.
My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.
Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!
Hemphia,
I could have applied for the Spring 2012 session but I didn't because my little one was in preschool and I wanted to wait until they went to kindergarten. That way we could both be in school at the same time and I wouldn't have to pay for full time day care. In the Fall I took A &P II and College Algebra. I have not received any kind of evaluation. When I applied A & P II was the only course I was lacking. This is the first time I have applied for any nursing program! I have buddies in the Spring class that were finishing pre-reqs when they applied and they got evaluations. Who knows maybe it's just in the mail and I haven't received it yet!
Hemphia,
I applied very close to the deadline, I think around December 25-30th can't remember the exact day. I took my Hesi test on the 19th so that is why I had to wait to apply. I have read almost every page of the Spring 2012 applicants and thought I remembered something about the transcript evaluations in there. I have "official transcript" on my to-do list and asked why it was there and they said because I am currently enrolled. Taking Chem, APII, and Philosophy this semester. Just not sure why if you are enrolled as well that you don't have the same to-do list as me? I also haven't gotten the transcript evaluation. However, I did have to request my transcripts to be sent to them a few times because Lonestar had my gpa calculations all off so I had to get everything corrected and sent the school and updated transcript around the deadline.
Also, I applied without having two completed sciences. I have AP I, and other sciences on my transcripts that are not (chem, apII, or Micro). I applied anyway, just because I didn't want to think what if. I am also not kidding myself on getting accepted due to this one lacking application requirement.
I am in Chem, APII and Phil now, and will take micro this summer. After that I am done with everything. I have a 4.0 in science (A in AP I) and my current pre-req gpa is also 3.6. I got an overall 87% on my Hesi test, and have an associates degree. Of course if I get denied I will reapply for Spring 2013 and have an entire Fall semester off to be with my two children. I may even retake the Hesi to bring the overall to an A, because then I feel like I will be a great candidate for acceptance. They told me by email my Hesi scores were all above the requirements and that I would further be evaluated for acceptance.
I do think if you get an evaluation they are saying everything is good to go for acceptance and at this point its just ranking and taking their pick from those formally evaluated (those getting a letter). For you now it really is just waiting. If I get a denial letter which I may due to lacking a second science to use in calculations, I will let the forum know immediately! So far I haven't gotten anything and I am just staying optimistic that my good stats will get me in.

okay so you also have a hold still because you are currently classes at the same college? which probably means our transcripts havent been evaluated hopefully they do it soon.
i am praying and driving myself crazy haha
btw my stats need to be updated:
prereq: 3.75
science: 3.67
hesi 89.5 overall
critical thinking- 850
To everyone asking about transcript evaluations, there is no rhyme or reason to when you get them other than when they process your file. I am sure they started from the ones that were complete with everything first and are working their way through the stacks of applications. Don't fret if you haven't received anything yet, the application deadline was just 15 days ago! With regards to questioning those who did/didn't get accepted and the receipt of transcript evaluations, there is no correlation. I got 2 evals. and I did not get in...I honestly didn't expect to get in last semester, it was hopeful/wishful thinking as I didn't have 2 sciences done so they were not included in my science GPA. My HESI scores and CT scores were awesome so I thought...why not try! I went to an info. session in the early fall and if my notes are right we should know something in March!! I think that someone else asked about interviews...the Spring class did not get interviewed, they were the first class that did not have them. We will be the second. I think that I answered all the questions that have been asked! Hopefully our wait is not too long! :)
Great stats Meghana09! Don't worry you will probably get an evaluation letter! Yes I am still taking classes at the same college from which I sent my transcripts, that is why they told me the holds would not go away. Just seeing your scores I don't think you have anything to worry about! My science gpa is 4.0, pre-req 3.6, hesi overal 87%, critical thinking 830.
Keep checking the mail it will show up for you!! Just let us know when it does :)

This is awesome news for me and a way better "let down" then keeping my hopes up and getting my nerves frazzled! I don't have a second science finished either. Took AP I last semester and got an A, and my other sciences are not chem, ap II or micro (wahh). But like you I thought I must try because everything else is so great! Thank you for keeping us informed it is really nice to hear from people who have applied more than once, I think you got it this go round and I pray you get in!! :) I knew in the back of my mind that my acceptance would come in 2013 and I have every reason to be excited about that application! If I dont get in then it wasn't meant to be but all my scores are pretty good and I may even retake my Hesi to bring it up!
Did you get your denial letter around the time that people got their acceptance? What did your evaluation letters say for Science if you didn't have 2 they required?
ps. did you at least have one science finished?
@desjt Basically the transcript evaluation showed all the classes that counted towards the program and what the GPA's were, etc. they were divided by semester and school. Now, I have been in school on and off for 20 years and I completed a Paramedic program so I had TONS of hours that didn't count towards anything. I don't even think there was anything on the evals about classes that I still needed to take, but I don't remember for sure. My Science GPA going into the last application was a 3.25 and now I believe it is a 3.75. I am not really sure what my overall is but I know that it is better than it was. I took 18 hours and earned all A's last semester so it will go up. My HESI was a 95.93 and my CT was a 920. Hope this helps ease your anxiety some! We will all be nurses someday!
It is but I thought just apply because if I don't get accepted I will have all of the fall of this year off, I haven't had a break from school since Fall 2009. Plus I want to get it done as quick as possible. I really wish they didn't have that 8 hours requirement because I literally have everything else. lol but just wanted to be optimistic! Thanks to the other post in my similar situation I know they won't accept me. Ill still be reading and staying update until then :) just too excited for everyone else and getting accepted regardless of it is Spring next year.

ktdidit - Did you not apply for the Spring Semester? Or is that when you applied for the Spring 2012? And did you not get an evaluation then? What classes did you have left? etc? I am just curious how this all works. Did you see that those who got evals seemed to get accepted for the spring? What was it you experienced with your previous application?
