Hi everyone! I did not find a thread for fall 2015 UTHSC applicants so I decided to create one, sorry if there is already one. I am going to be applying to Prairie View A&M, UTHSC, and Lone Star College (with UTHSC being my first choice). My current stats are:
Science GPA: 4.0
Overall GPA: 3.9
I am taking my Hesi test this Saturday. I'm fairly nervous about it so I'm studying non-stop until it's time to take the test.
I'm looking forward to talking to everyone else that is applying! :)
Science GPA: 4.0Overall GPA: 3.9Hesi score: 92.80%
Reading Comprehension: 90%
Grammar: 96%
Vocabulary: 96%
Anatomy: 84%
Math: 98%
Critical Thinking: 880
Learning Style: Cognitive/Global
Personality: Creative/Leader
I am currently taking the last 4 pre-req classes now. I have taken all of my classes at Lone Star and I have no previous degree.
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your stats! You just gave me hope! I plan on applying for the Spring 2016 session. I will also have 4 classes left to finish for the fall, no previous degree, and I too have taken all my prereq's at a community college. I've been already stressing out about only attending a CC because I read on previous UTHSC threads that CC classes pretty much "lower" your chances of getting in. So far my GPA is at a 3.91 (3.93 at the end of this spring semester), and 4.0 for sciences. HESI study guide is coming in this weekend so I'll be studying for that for about a month. I do have a couple of questions if you don't mind me asking!
What (if any) materials did you use to study for the HESI?
Were any of your last 4 classes a science class or did you finish all 4 before the deadline?
What was your course load for your semesters at Lone Star?
I apologize if those questions are too intrusive! You don't have to answer if it makes you uncomfortable. It's just that these are reasons past threads have said to be factors for UT decisions. But either way I've read how their decisions can confuse people on what is important and what isn't.
Anyway, CONGRATS for getting accepted!
Congrats to everyone else that got accepted!! I haven't read through the whole thread yet so if anybody hasn't heard anything back yet:
"Don't lose hope if you're still waiting" and/or applying more than once never hurts!

I actually find that hard to believe (that completing courses at CC lowering your chances) especially because UTHSC has a special agreement with Lone Star and HCC for the RN-BSN route that allows those students to get early acceptance.
For HESI review material, definitely get this book: Admission Assessment Exam Review / Edition 3 by HESI | 9781455703333 | Paperback | Barnes & Noble
Take the assessment exam and see where you weak points are, spend more time focusing on those first, (obviously) and then get back into the sections where you naturally excel at. For me, I had to focus more of my time on Grammar and I will SWEAR by this book I found on Amazon! It definitely brought me up at least 10 points for the HESI.Admission Assessment Exam Review / Edition 3 by HESI | 9781455703333 | Paperback | Barnes & Noble
For A&P, I would use the official HESI guide, and then supplement your notes from AP I & II as needed. And if you need more practice on exams for particular sections (for me, I needed more practice on grammar) look at SAT books, other HESI exam books, etc. UTHSC has told me previously (at an info session) that you only get TWO scores you can submit, so make sure your first one is a good one because I heard the AP section the second time around is a lot more difficult.

Awesome lhueng, thank you for all the info/tips! I followed the link and that's exactly the book I am expecting in the mail tomorrow! Can you give me some idea of what to expect for the math section? That's most likely my weakest area even though I like math, I miss little things here and there.
About taking all prerequisites at a CC, those were my thoughts exactly. Somebody, I can't remember from what year/class the post was made in but somebody mentioned that courses from a uni were preferred....which could be pretty disappointing for somebody like me because I've been taking all my prereqs at a HCC (I don't have an RN to go the Rn-BSN route). Why would they include them in the transfer guide to begin with!? But then again, there always seems to be a lot over-thinking when it comes to their decision process. Anyhow. Did you apply for other semesters at UTHSC as well? And I'm crossing my fingers that you hear something soon!!!
Hey everyone and congrats!!!! I am presently a J1 (1st semester junior) at UTHSC at Houston. Welcome and I look forward to meeting yall. Did yall already create a facebook page? Is so, please post the link. I would love to join ur page and help yall get some things together so yall won't be behind. UT's professor loads the students with sooooo many assignments and materials that it can be very overwhelming for brand new students. Trust me!!!! I know!!!! I want to help yall by giving yall some pointers so yall can be ahead. For example: I suggest that yall buy 3 sets of scrubs but yall will only need to wear 2 sets a week. You will be wearing scrubs to school on Monday and Tuesday. You wear whatever you want on Wednesday. Classes are Monday - Wednesday. I have 3 sets of scrubs, just in case I don't come around to doing laundry the weekend after classes...then I will at least have 1 set of scrubs for Monday's class. You will also need a stethoscope, penlight, bandage scissors, blood pressure cuff, thermometer, folding clipboard, pin tag, patches for your scrubs, etc etc.
If you want to get ahead on a couple of assignments I can tell you that your Care 1 professor is going to ask you to write a 1 paragraph (5 sentence at least) essay on "What is your personal definition of nursing?" YOu can write more if you like. I personally wrote 2 paragraphs. This assignment must be done with 1 inch margin, 12 font, double space and Times New Roman. Have it already typed up on Word document and ready to upload on Blackboard. Blackboard is where we upload our assignment for the professor to receive it. This is also where we get our syllabus, see our grades etc etc. She will also read a couple of the students definition of nursing, to the class and will say the name of the student who wrote that definition, so be prepared just in case she reads your paper/ definition. lol She is also going to ask you to write a 3 page summary paper on Chapter 5 of your purple NCLEX Saunders Book. This is a little difficult because Chapter 5 is already a short chapter. She makes it clear not to cite anything and no plagiarism. You must write your entire paper in your words only!!! The best way to do this is read 1 paragraph and summarize it on your paper. Then read the next paragraph and summarize it in your own words and put that in your paper. Really try to milk it (stretch it, stretch whatever you're trying to say) so it can come out to 3 FULL pages. I went a little over 3 pages to be safe. I actually wrote 3 full pages and finish on the 4th page with 2 sentences to be safe. This assignment also must be done in 1 inch margin, 12 font, double spaced and Times New Roman. Have it ready to upload on Blackboard too. Ok. I got to run. I have a patho exam to study for. I just wanted to take a minute away from my studies and welcome yall and say hello. Please don't forget to post your fb link. I will join and help yall as much as I can. ttyl
