UTA Spring 2012

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Alas! Here I go again!;) This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!:D

Please please express these things on your student course evaluations... The pharm course was the worst course of ALL the pre reqs... And then chemistry... But seriously folks express your feelings on the evaluation they make a huge difference.

Can anyone list all (or at least the majority) of the hospitals that are partnered with UTA?

Thanks!

whats your email address?

@kswilliams1107, congrats! Seems like all I was reading was about the denials and waitlist. I was kinda "freakin out!" I applied for Fall 2012 and am starting to rethink my options.

If you are planning on doing your clinicals at GSMC I would say GO FOR IT! I'm not partnered and got it. They are accepting 20 instead of 10 for the next 3 entry terms. I don't think that many people in the area know about the program. I encourage those that are waitlisted and are willing to do clinicals in East Texas to talk to their advisors about getting in at Good Shepherd. The program could use a little more organization and communicate a little better, but I truly believe that it was made for me. I wouldn't think of going to any other nursing school. I need the convenience of online classes and the convenience of doing my clinicals at GSMC.

Did y'all see the post from the academic coach? I am really confused about my grade. Were the test questions thrown out or what? I feel like the grading in this class has been a little unfair. Anyway hopefully we can all pull through and get a good grade on the final!

I thought that was a little unfair as well. Instead of just giving us credit for the bad questions, she threw them out and now they questions were worth more. So, if you missed anything besides those bad questions, it counted off more. That was so crazy. I'm so ready to be done with this horrible class. Worst class I've ever taken... anywhere!

PHARM 3365 FOLKS: Has anyone in the online Pharm class been accepted to the AP program?

I'm taking online Pharm and I hate it, but I must admit, I just figured out how to study for it on the last test. lol!!

I couldn't agree more. Besides chemistry Pharm was the worst class ever. I can't wait to be done. I feel like I've barely learned anything. I would have much rather taken a test every week that just taken five. I feel like its just lazy teaching to give your students only five tests. Oh well. We are almost done!!

How did you study? I've just started highlighting and taking notes on my computer. Seems to have helped but the final is going to be death!

I really wish the Pharm professor would have given us assignments along the way. If anything to make sure we are understanding the material. I listened to some of the recorded lectures from a different professor and they were REALLY helpful.

@kswilliams1107 - how are you studying? I am finding it difficult as well. The last test was my best test so far, I have a C and I'm okay with that, just need to hold onto it.

As for the Path final - how are people studying for that?

I made note cards for the different drug classes that included the info from the drug template: MECH OF ACTION AND DRUG EFFECTS, INDICATIONS, CONTRAINDICATIONS, INTERACTIONS, AND SIDE EFFECTS. I also added key points dealing with Nurse Assessment and Nurse Implementation. I did not put EVERYTHING on these note cards, only what I felt was important. For example, I only put most common and most sever Side Effects, not every single thing listed. For some reason, using colored note cards helped me a lot. The book is very well organized if you need further explanation in addition to the modules.

I've found that the Nurse Assessment and Implementation portions at the end of each chapter are a great help as well as any case scenarios in your book. The answers for those are on evolve and give a great explanation as well. Good Luck to all!! I just want to pass this class. I currently have a B, but I must admit I went into this class with a horrible attitude after seeing all of the info I needed to learn, when in actuality I didn't need ALL of the info at all. This class is poorly designed and executed. Bless us all!!
