UTA Spring 2012

Alas! Here I go again!;) This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!:D

I am taking College Algebra that starts today for the 2nd time. I withdrew last time. It is terrible but this is how I have to take it. Has anyone taken this class and how did you do well? There is NO teaching. I have bought DVDs that I am going to start on to try to teach myself. I have to get through it this time. Then I am taking Statistics that starts 10/24.

Is there no way you could have taken these at a local college face to face? I say this because I actually FAILED college algebra years ago (and that F looks HUGE whenever I look at my transcript). I made an A the second time around, but I decided to take Intermediate Algebra first to refresh my memory on math. There is no way I could have done these online. If math is not a strong subject for you (and I know it isn't for a lot of us, including me) then you might want to consider that. I know class starts today for you, but look into it for Stats maybe.

@ ShellyE: re: the book/labpaq, :( I already got mine or ordered it or I would definitely jump on this offer! And YES! Diversify in your nursing school options. The reason why Tejas and I both are redoing our sciences is because of the age limit. We both have taken all the sciences before, but in order to apply to other schools, they need to be more recent. UTA does not ask for this, though. We are trying to open up more avenues in which we can get our RN--be it thru community college or a university. I am looking into UTA, TCC, and Weatherford. I am considering El Centro or Brookhaven maybe, but not really enthused (exhusband lives in Dallas--I so do NOT want to be anywhere in Dallas! LOL).

I took Intermediate to refresh myself and had a 106 final grade so I thought I'd be ok. I took it f2f. I am actually going to be in and out of town working with my husband so I have to do this online. I am hoping with the DVDs and online tutoring maybe I can do it. I know I could do well if I just KNEW the concepts. My best friend has failed college algebra twice...she only gets one more chance. I have to pass it somehow.

I understand that! I am in East Tx. so I plan on working at Good Shepherd (which someone posted about getting accepted to for partnership and didn't want it...lol) I wanted to be partnered there. I know UT Tyler has a good program there but there it is mostly on campus. I may be better making the drive. It is an hour and 15 min. for me. They have a huge new beautiful health science center.

Ok, I know this may sound a little weird....BUT, the only way I got through College Algebra and made an "A" was because of my high school daughter. She was in her last semester of Algebra II and she helped me tremendously!!! My advice to anyone that has to take this class is to find yourself a high school tutor!! If you don't any high schoolers or have friends that have high school students, then go to the local high school and ask to speak to the counselor of the head of the math department. They can give your phone number to the Honor Society kids that earn points for community service or that would like to make some extra money tutoring.

The head of the math department was also kind enough to give me copies of old tests for me to work on. I'm sure it had something to do with the fact that I had a daughter that went to school there, and he was a football coach and my daughter was on the drill team, but I didn't care. I needed HELP in any form that it came to me!!

I remember you saying that before. I actually had the high school math teacher tutor me the last 2 weeks but it just wasn't soon enough. I had 2 teens that just graduated with As in math help me review and they were stumped on most of it so I was in trouble...lol. I just withdrew and thought I would start over knowing what I know now. I will be getting help the whole time this time around.

I received an email today from the Senior Office Assistant at UTA telling me that I was DROPPED from the applicant pool b/c my Hesi score was incomplete. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I wrote back immediately and CC'd the Assistant Dean. I have numerous emails going on the way back til' May from me, asking the "secretary" to verify that she did indeed have my scores and my application was complete. Nada, nothing, zip, zero. I never heard a word from her until today.

I really lost it. Needless to say, my Hesi scores couldn't have jumped through the internet any faster to get there.

FIVE MINUTES later, I received an email from the same "secretary", saying that she made an error and should not have removed my application at all. Ya think?

Talk about a near heart attack. OMG!

OK, my venting is done........thank ya, thank ya very much :)

Thank you Girls for the clarification, I was looking under the wrong section. I am going to look into it, although, it is kind of late. But would like to save some money.

@katybusymom...Oh my goodness I would've had a heart attack too!! How crazy?! I'm so glad you got that handled so fast...I remember receiving an email last go around (Fall 2011 application) that said I was missing something and actually it was there the whole time...so I feel your pain! Always makes for a nervous wreck while it's all being sorted out tho! Point is...all is good now and we can pray letters will go out early Nov and we will finally know...whoohoo!!

@tejas03, Libra1018...and everyone lurking on this thread! hee hee

Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. This has been a trying, exhausting year...but I still press on. This morning, I received confirmation that perseverance will pay off afterwhile...

I PASSED MY BOARDS!!! Hallelujah!
