UTA Spring 2012

Published

Alas! Here I go again!;) This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!:D

edit. i meant to write tests, not classes

thanks i was checking it out last night, still trying to make time to research.

@Gracie2011...yes, just keep emailing them...it does take awhile. From what we've heard they are short and training some new advisors so it may be a little of a breakdown right now...just be persistent and you can even call and speak with receptionist at nursing dept and let her know your trying to register and see if she can field you in the right direction...hope you get someone today!

@Libra1018...that's great savings!!! Whoohoo! I am set with patho (finished last week) just pharm left...I'll look into that!

@nikkibro...yes, I'm applying to any and every job out there...haha Thanks for the encouragement!

Welcome to all the new people!! I can't believe the summer has come and gone and now we are onto fall!! It will be Nov before we know it and we all know what that means....letters!! whoohoo!!!

Is anyone having trouble contacting their adviser? How long does it usually take them to respond? l

Mine typically only takes a day, but the last time it took her about 4 days. She's pretty good about getting back to me. She's not one of the newer one's. My last name begins with an R, if that helps to identify who she is. But she is very helpful to me when needed.

Definitely just keep trying. Email tends to work better than calling, too.

I did look up the professors though.......they got HORRIBLE reviews.....and I couldn't find out any info on what books they use. Do you know?

Hey! OK, first, I made an error--the Path/Pharm classes at ECC start on 08/29, not 08/22. As of right now, both classes have almost full availability (limit is 30). I looked up the professors. There were two listed. One of them has reviews that are pretty old (2009) so I am hoping it is not so bad now. The other one, is actually the only one listed on my printed schedule. She only has 2 reviews from 2010, but they were fine. I had to look her up by name.

As for books, your right. Nothing listed. Likely because the class is new. I did look up the books for the other prof teaching it as well as the section that was cancelled with a different prof. Both were using the same books, so it will likely be the same. Since I now have until the 29th, I am gonna give it a couple of days for book info to be loaded to be sure. I rent my textbooks from an online textbook rental company.

Hope that helps! :)

Congrats to Tejas03 and Libra1018 on your A's in A&P I and A&P II! Can you give some suggestions on how to conquer A&P and did you take these with UTA in the AP program?

Hi! Forgot to answer this. I took A & P II thru UTA. Completely doable. The professor is good and I didn't have any problems with the class. It's not a cakewalk, but you can definitely make an A. Her lecture exams are harder than the lab practicals, but she drops the lowest grade, so that helps. Micro is going to be a bear for me, so I am not so confident about an A there. :uhoh3:

@nikkibro...I haven't taken A&P at UTA yet...just Micro. I'm set to start on Mon for A&P 1 and then in Oct start A&P 2. I've taken all these classes before (10 yrs ago) but needed to get them within the 5 yr rule so I can apply at multiple colleges/universities next application time...holding out for UTA but everyone needs a plan B. ;)

Micro was an EXTREMELY difficult class but completely doable....I made an A! ;) Just be ready to study, study, and study some more...haha. The labs are very simple and straightforward...lecture is a lot harder so be prepared. @Libra1018...you are going to do great!! I just know it!!

I've heard great things from several people at A&P at UTA...same teacher for both and they say she's really good. I'm excited and ready to start...faster I start...the faster I can be done!! yea!! :-) I think if you take them at UTA you will be fine!

HAHA, Tejas!! I literally just sent you an email--yes, AGAIN! :D

@libra, OK, I registered for Patho and Pharm both today at El Centro. I also sent an email to my advisor at UTA to make sure that those credits WILL transfer over! I would seriously love to get that money back. El Centro uses the same books as UTA......and I already bought both books :)

I think the classes have a new professor. I looked up the same info you did. It seems like they both have the same lead prof, but now they have a new assistant (who will probably be teaching the class).

this is what my advisor said to me in email 04/25/11:

uta's college of nursing does accept patho and pharm from dcc's el centro or brookhaven campuses in the rnsg series.

that being, said, thank you for being proactive and getting another confirmation. that would so not be good if we both took it only to find out they had changed their acceptance policy. thanks for checking about the books, too. sweet! now at least we each have a familiar "name" in the class!

@tejas03 -- thanks for the info -- I am registered for A&PI at UTA and planning to take A&PII immediately after.

@nikkibro....great we will be in the same classes then! I've already taken the required lab safety test and logged onto blackboard and taken a look at the class set up/taken the syllabus quiz so I am all set for Monday...yea...ready to be done...hahaha! It's nice to know someone in the class now! :-)
