UTA Spring 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Is anyone out there applying at UTA for the spring? I was wondering, if we are asked to interview, what month would that be? and does anyone know when they send out their final decision? Also, what goes on in the interview? Any tips? pls?

I'm starting a group on facebook called "UTA Nursing-Class of Fall 2011" if you would like to join and introduce yourselves.

you will get a packet in the mail once you mail in your acceptance letters. the packet contains tons of information about orientation and required things you must do and etc.

The faculty at uta uses hp ipaq 210. Most students use an itouch or an iphone (but if you have camera capability, you must cover it during clinicals). U get a SD memory card if your pda is a PC/palm. You get a code if you have an itouch/iphone. These cards and codes is for mosby's drug reference, guides, dictionary, etc\. for when you go look up meds on your patient when you are giving it for your meds checkoff.

Altogether, i would say one would probably need to spend about ohhhh let's say roughly $1700 prior to jr 1 semester. i didnt include stethoscope ($40-$190). Most students use the littman classic II SE. In my opinion, i wouldnt waste my money on buying a good one til after graduation or something. There's a $10 one at the uta bookstore that works fine also. You will need to do a blood pressure checkoff in assessment lab with an electronic hand dummy.. you measure for sys/dias BP and confirm the BP by auscultating with ur steth.

They will teach us how to do that, right? I've only taken BP twice before, and I'm not good at it.

goopsy i would think they would teach you, since it isnt like we have had a course where we have had to use one before. i dont think that would be fair for them to just automatically assume we have takin bp b4. i took a cna program over the summer that taught us how to do bp but even still i think the more practice, the better

goopsy take a look at ur mail. but the short answer is yes they will teach you guys how to perform all the required checkoff skills. I will most likely not look over this thread as much anymore, so any questions you guys have please mail me through my private message box and ill do my best to answer your questions, with any personal opinions i may offer =).

Hello drea!

All of my friends received the letters this past weekend, both of them lives about 40 min from UTA. I would call the advisors & ask them what happen. Keep us updated!

Thank you so much Misspink, I really appreciate your response! :) Its Monday, so if nothing comes I am definately going to call. Hope you had a good birthday!!!! :) Congrats to all of you also!! :)

drea1981...did you get a letter today?

Also, for misspink or ayeisha or anyone else who knows...do you know how much the cost of classes is for Jr 1 (before scholarships and awards, not including books and supplies)? I know the tuition chart says $4093 for 12 hours + $22 nursing fee for each unit. I was just wondering how accurate this was? Does anyone have a friend there now that they could ask for me please? Thanks so much if you can.
