U.S.A. Texas

Is anyone out there applying at UTA for the spring? I was wondering, if we are asked to interview, what month would that be? and does anyone know when they send out their final decision? Also, what goes on in the interview? Any tips? pls?

You will get it ayeisha!! I just have a good feeling about it! Today was a wonderul day for me, and tomorrow will be just as great for you!

Thanks Icestar817! How is UTA; I mean, is it everything you thought it would be?

thanks you guys.. i hope u get in ayeisha, hope u guys will enjoy your first semester at uta as i have so far. so far this semester its been so much fun. at first, u will be overwhelmed with info. but after you hone in on ur skills and retain the information, its pretty much on your own at the hospital. you get to give meds with your nurse after you pass ur medication checkoff with your clinical instructor; i passed mine last week. Before you get to give meds (PO, IV, injections), you must pass this math test, which in my opinion was pretty easy although some didnt make the required 90% grade in the class to pass for giving medications. the first semester is really basic: 3 classes, assessment, foundations, and promotions. assessment is where you practice all ur basic assessment of patients (checking them head-to-toe). foundations (is by far the hardest class this semester, this is where studying nclex style questions will help), promotions in my opinion is an easy class lol, its pretty much common sense in that class. There will be 3 skills checkoff this semester; foley cather insertion (male or female), nasal gastric tube insertion, and sterile wound dressing. I've been hearing that they may add another class next semester: geriatrics because there are alot of old patients in the hospitals and that's who you will mostly see when u go to clinicals. Overall, prepare yourselves with a bombardment of info and printing of papers (utilize the LRC). The first month of nursing school will be a bit rough, my sleeping schedule was really whacky then. It has calmed down a bit for me now, thank goodness. um, and prepare to buy alot of stuff for nursing school, especially books (total cost $1200, comes in a bundle), stethoscope, lab kit for the smart hospital ($150), PDA to bring to clinicals to look up patient's medication, have to take a CPR class at UTA ($20?), getting all of the required immunizations and turning it in, buying scrubs with a patch sewed on ur left side (u will need to wear it for assessment and foundations lab.. so you might need to buy 2 sets bc u will need to wear it twice each week), white closed toe shoes, ah theres alot more lol.... if you guys have questions just ask. I hope im not already piling things on u guys but i hope u take the info i've said as a guidance. And after orientation, you will get to choose ur clinical site. It's random, but they want you to chooose ur top 10 or 11 sites that you prefer. I may have missed some information but thats all i can think of right now as i have clinicals tomorrow and i will be getting to go to OR yayyy.. hope i see something cool in there. ;) For jr 1, you will not get to play with the dummies as much with the exception of the 3 skills checkoff i mentioned, i think you will get to see the dummies cry, sweat, etc when you get into jr2 thru sr2.

You will meet alot of interesting folks, a good thing to do is set up a study group, bc it will help tremendously when studying for an exam. The instructors for jr 1 uses webct ALOT, so make sure to check it!! (it will be alot of postings, but check it, there will be pertinent information regarding to exams, etc.)

Oh wow thank you Icestar!!! you are soooo helpful! I will definitely send you a message when the time gets closer :) As of now I cant think of anything off the top of my head but I'm sure when the semester comes to a close I will be blowin up your inbox lol :D I truley appreciate the guidance!!

Oh I have a question already ha ha, what kind of PDA do you use? and can you give us an estimate on how much we should expect to spend the first semester on all of the supplies? I know you said 1200 for the books & 150 for the smart hospital kit

Wow, thanks Icestar817!! That's great info to know! I would have given you 2 "kudos" if I could have, but it only lets you give one, lol.

Ayeisha, I did want to warn you about the envelope. You mentioned in another post that your advisor had told you that it would be so thick you would know before you opened it. My envelope was not that thick. Actually, when I saw it, I thought it was a rejection because it was smaller than what your advisor had made it sound out to be. It's actually only four pages long. So not very thin, but too thick either. I wish we had more info on what we need to buy so I can start preparing to buy the stuff now before the holidays.

ha ha Goopsy thats how I felt about the envelope too! I was like OMG I didnt get in! and then I ripped it open & saw the bolded CONGRATULATIONS he he : ) it still makes me giggle. But yeah I did warn my friends about the letter not being thick

I Got In ! i just went outside to check the mail and sure enough it finally came! im so excited!!

Ayeisha!!!!!!!!! :ancong!: I knew it!! There was no way you didn't get in. Tell your parents! Heck, tell everyone. I even went back and told the mail man lol. He was happy too haha.

lol thanks goopsy...and to everyone else that has been wishing me luck! my mom was sitting on the phone at work crying when i told her. I tried to make it seem like i didnt make it at first and she was like "What oh no we are going up to the school to talk to the dean" lol, then i told her i was just playing and I was accepted.

lol, o that is sooo funny. haha

So, guess what guys!?? I got my acceptance email from TWU just now!! I can't belive I was accepted to both schools! I am so happy, and I don't know which school to choose...any thoughts from you guys? I have till the 9th to let TWU know...and the 13th for UTA. Maybe I'll start a new thread...

congratulations goopsy! which campus did you get accepted to? didnt you apply to uta's fast track program also? have you gotten anything yet for that? Both schools are great nursing schools. I wanted to apply to twu but they wouldnt accept my hesi scores bc i took it at uta. I think the main difference will be that uta has the smart hospital.

yah thanks ayeisha! and UTA is one of the top 20 largest nursing schools in the US. I got accepted to the Dallas campus. I would have to move to the other side of the airport if I went to UTA bc I'm in lewisville now and that's too far. My husband does not mind at all, neither do I, but I don't know that area very well. Someone recommended centrepoint; is that a good neighborhood? It's about 15-20 mins from UTA.
