UTA ONLINE FNP APRIL 7th Start

Published

Hello,

I just wanted to check in and see if anyone has received acceptance or any kind of notification into the ONLINE FNP Academic partnership for the April 7th start!

Thanks

I applied for the May 19th date. I would love to hear any information you have. Also, did you do financial aid? I was just wondering how they processed it that fast since they only gave you like a 3 week notice.

I am seriously overwhelmed now. The other class I'm taking is very busy. It is all doable, but difficult (keep in mind I haven't turned anything in yet so I only think it's doable). As far as financial aid is concerned, I had no problems. Back in January I went online and changed my 2013 Fafsa to reflect graduate studies and had it sent to UTA. When I was accepted I called the financial aid department and I had funds a week before class started. The May 19th start is considered summer, which falls under the 2014 FAFSA. When you get accepted just call the financial aid department and request aid for summer.

ldawn79, sorry to hear about the overwhelming feeling. That's what I'm worried about since they require you to take 2 courses at a time.

Did they give you a course map for the program? I think it would be beneficial to know the order they require you take your classes. If you do, I'd appeciate a copy.

I'm still waiting to hear about the May 19th start date. I hope they let us know soon.

Hi,

I am just checking to see if anyone has received admission letter for May 19th start date. Thanks for any response.

I'm not going to have a mental breakdown. I'm not going to have a mental breakdown. I'm not going to have a mental breakdown.

Thanks for all the feedback Idawn

I also have applied for the program but I applied for the August start date. I want to enjoy my summer before the madness starts!!!

Patho and pharm scare the crap out of me! Not looking forward to those classes at all. Please continue to update as you can thanks!

I applied for the May 19th start date and was told we should start hearing around May 2nd.

I applied for the June 31 session. I was told by the enrollment specialist not to expect any response until mid- may. I wish i can know sooner because i have a 8hrs/5days a week job and would like to switch my hours to 12hrs/3days a week. Is anyone starting in June? I wounder how @idawn79 is doing?

I have also applied for the September start date. Appreciative of any posts from the earlier start dates about how the program works! Was so excited when they announced the fully online FNP program.

Hey everyone,

My relationship with UTA has officially ended. I dropped both classes on Friday. In all honesty, I would have been perfectly fine if I had only been taking 1 class at a time (but then I wouldn't qualify for financial aid). I was taking Theories and Pathophysiology. Theories is 5 weeks and had 1 or 2 discussion boards due weekly, a 15 page paper due at the end of week 3, a group powerpoint due at the end of week 4, and a 10 page paper due week 5. There was also a quiz that was taken in week 1 that was incredibly easy. I was not worried about any of the assignments, they were all understandable and seemed like my biggest issue would be not going over the page limit. Patho was another story. First, let me say that I really like the professor. He was a constant presence on the discussion boards and was always the one to respond to all questions, not the coaches. There was a weekly quiz on Tuesday, except 3 Tuesdays where there was a test instead, discussion boards were due on Thursdays (with 2 references), a case study due every Sunday, and one poster about a disease that was due week 9 or 10. This sounds completely doable, until you finish the first week. Class starts on monday and the first quiz is on tuesday. The reading assignment is usually 4-5 chapters for the week, but the quizzes only cover 1 of these. This was not clear to many the first week, including myself. The quiz was insane. 20 questions and 25 minutes. It was not looking to see if you understood concepts, it wanted finite details. I got a 45. The professor reviews every question and ultimately accepted multiple answers on several questions, this raised me to a 55. He also increased the time to 35 minutes. The quizzes totaled together are worth either 10 or 15% of the final grade. I can makeup this failure. The second quiz I got an 80. The case studies consist of a given patient and includes history, physical, and lab values. There are 12 questions that he wants very detailed answers with references. Both of the case studies I turned in were 10-12 pages long by the time I was done (I got a 90 and 97). The kicker is that they are worth a total of 15%. This means 10 case studies are each worth about 1.6 points each. I had not taken any tests yet, the first is this Tuesday. This class is so busy that I could not work on my theories class at all (keep in mind I work 5 8 hour shifts).

This past tuesday was the 3rd quiz. You have from midnight to midnight to take the quiz. I got home from work at 2030, ate, reviewed, and sat down to take my quiz at 2235. I could not log on to Blackboard, strange since I was logged on at work. I called blackboard support and they could not get it fixed, they said a few others were calling in with issues also and gave me a case number and told me they might not get it fixed in time for my quiz. They said email my professor immediately and give the case number. I emailed the professor with the info. I was never able to take the quiz. The next day he emailed me back and apologized but explained that there are no makeups and I will have to get a 0. I emailed back explaining that I truly had tried to login well within the time constraints of the quiz, but that the problem was with blackboard. This was completely out of my control. He apologized again, but I still got a 0. Blackboard support forwarded me to the help desk, who eventually had to delete my account and reenter me into the system. I explained the situation of my grade to them and they said the teachers were usually understanding when it was a system issue. I explained that my teacher was not understanding and he told me he would send it on to his manager. I cried all day wednesday (thank God my boss is a close friend and tolerated my emotional state). I could probably get by with those grades if I did really well on the tests, but I was terrified of the tests. They cover many chapters. What if this happened again during a test (you only have a 3 hour window to take the tests)? I don't understand how I was to be penalized for a system problem. I understand that I could have taken the test earlier, but when they say you have until midnight, you should have until midnight. I emailed the professor and explained that I was going to drop. He said he decided to allow the students to drop their lowest quiz grade to make up for system problems, but I still worried this would happen again. And I was upset that I was going to be penalized for a problem with their system that I had no control over.

I called UTMB (I was accepted there for fall) and asked if I could accept even though the deadline passed and they said yes. I think this is a better option for me. I do plan to cut down on my work hours, but I need to work for a little while longer. I think the compressed classes were also just too much for me. UTMB's classes are full semester. There are people who are doing perfectly fine at UTA, so I'm not saying it isn't possible. If I hadn't gotten that 0 I doubt I would have dropped, it literally pushed me over the edge. I have been suffering from severe stress headaches since the first quiz and I do nothing but homework and never leave my house unless it is to go to work. This program just did not work for me. When I called my advisor to drop she requested that I send an email detailing my reasons for dropping. She said she is hearing the same things from everyone who is dropping. I said I was relieved to not be the only one dropping and she told me there have been many. She did say the curriculum was going to be reviewed and there was a possibility that patho would be recommended to take alone.

I don't expect UTMB to be any easier, but I think it will be manageable. The patho professor mentioned identifying my limitations, and I think 2 graduate level compressed classes is beyond my limitations.

Idadawn79

this is exactly why I applied to UTMB and will also be starting this fall. With my previous experiences with UTA I thought it would be bet to select a more traditional program that had semester long courses. I am sorry you had to suffer through this stressful situation but I am glad UTMB is letting you still accept your spot for the fall class. Now we can work together!!

I'm sorry to hear that you dropped UTA, but you are in UTMB now so it will have the same end result.

I really wish they allowed you to go one class at a time. Maybe they'll offer that soon.

My app for the May start date is still pending. Last email said we'd probably hear something on or about May 2nd.
