UTA Online Academic Partnership BSN Program - Dallas Hospitals

Published

Hello-

I have just learned about this the online (entire program including pre-req courses) ap bsn program at uta. I read about this on another uta thread but it was not as clear as it was explained today to me. This is similar to the twu weekend bsn program; however, the difference is you will conduct your clinicals at the hospital where you are employed. No matter what position/status where you work (partnered hospital), you can participate in this program at a discounted rate. So far, I believe uta partnered with parkland, baylor and thr but I believe the thr program is different. uta/thr partnership offers full financial support (tuition, fees, and books) by thr for the 2nd bacc bsn program. The ap bsn program only offers you a discount but you would need to use either scholarships or tuition reimbursement from your employer (hospital). :twocents:

I am so impressed with the fact that the entire program is online and it is estimated to take 18 months to complete (again including all pre-courses). The program is laid out great because you can take all pre-req sciences (except gen chem), psychology courses, stats and other pre-reqs online; your clinicals can be worked out with the clinical partnership manager. Since I work full-time in a non-clinical area, weekends would be so much better for me to participate in my clinicals. I believe the manager will be flexible with me on clinicals b/c we work closely together on a weekly basis.

I can start earlier with this program compared to the twu weekend program. Some pre-req courses are only 5-8 weeks long so you can complete your pre-reqs faster and courses are offered more than traditional program.

I would highly recommend this program for any career changes, who cannot afford to stop working full-time but have the desire to change careers into nursing. :redbeathe Go to www.uta.edu/nursing click on prospective students, click academic partnership, click on academic partnership under bsn program and read more about the opportunity.

Please note: you do not have to work at a hospital to be admitted into this program. Once you are admitted into the junior/senior level of the nursing program, uta will coordinate a clinical site for you at one of their partnership hospitals.

Is there anyone out who have started the ap bsn program either fall 2009 or spring 2010? I would love to hear how things are going in the online courses (whether you just started pre-req courses or you are taking the nursing courses).

I hope this has have been helpful information for those of you who really need flexibility while in the 2nd bsn fast track/accelerator program.

look forward to your response!

I know that being partnered increases the probability of being accepted. Should I focus on any partnered hospital or only those selected for clinicals?

That is really up to you.. you could get a job with one of the partnered hospitals and still not get in. I said in an earlier post that this program is getting increasingly popular so more and more employees from partnered hospitals are applying. I would call your advisor and ask what hospitals are partnered for whatever year and semester you are applying. But like I said, this does not promise you a seat in the APBSN program if you work there. I urge you to just keep trying and continue to apply even if you do not get in the first time.

Sweet! Thank you for your insight. December is just around the corner! I'll keep you in my prayers.:)

Hey everyone!

I'm so glad I'm not alone with the frustration with this program... especially lack of communication. I applied and have been placed on the waiting list for the Sept start. My advisor said they could call up till the first day of class! Also, she just let me know that if you are not employed with the hospital prior to the application deadline, it doesn't matter if you get a job there in the meantime. I am finished with all of my pre-reqs and was looking at taking a CNA class because I'm making the switch from education and have no experience either... but now that I know it won't increase my chances (even for the January start), I may just take some time off and enjoy the summer (and hope and pray a spot opens up!)

Good luck everyone. It helps to know we're all in the same boat!

Wait...so your advisor told you that if you don't have a job prior to the application deadline, but you get one afterward, it wouldn't benefit you? My advisor told me that if I get a job with a partner hospital after the deadline but before October, I should call/email her and let her know and she would move me into the partner pool. I feel like we are all getting different information from different people! I don't get it?!

I'm alittle confused too about that because someone who was accepted into a class before got a job very close to semester and was moved into partner slot...I wish they would make a decision and make it clear cause honestly there is several different stories circulating.:-/ I am going to email my advisor tomorrow and ask because this is very important to me.

Really? I will email her to clarify... she said "You have to be employed by the application deadline so it will not count for the spring 2012 start."

I really need to know too, because if it doesn't matter, I'm not going to spend $1000 on a CNA class to MAYBE get a job as a PCA/tech. I'm a stay at home mom, so I don't necessarily need a job, was just going to do it to improve my chances. That all being said, she has been adamant about me letting her know when/if i get a job.

Keep me posted on what ya'll hear!

Hey all,

I am also interested in this. My advisor told me a few weeks ago to let her know if I partnered in the next few months and that I would be put in the partner pool. (I can't partner this go round anyway, but am still interested in what the consensus is).

Thanks!

Hi all,

I emailed my advisor this morning and she sent the following reply: I went and spoke to my manager. You do need to be partnered by the application deadline. She is going to send out an e-mail to all of the advisors right now just to clarify. I would think all of the advisors use the application deadline as the date to which you need to be partnered but they will after today. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

This was after I sent an email that said it would be nice if all the advisors were on the same page and that it was very frustrating for the applicants. She said it might be awhile before she got an answer, so I was like, I can contact someone else if it will help you. She wrote me back with the above reply pretty quickly after i said that!

So, I'm going to drop the CNA class - i'll be out $150, but if it's not going to help me get into the program, I'm not going to worry about trying to find a job for right now.

So frustrating!

I am so frustrated! I'm going to look into TWU now...I feel like I've just been wasting my time with UTA!

I hear ya. I did as soon as i got my waiting list letter... for me, it's a hard decision because they require nutrition (which I haven't taken yet) and a completely different entrance exam... since I don't know what is going to happen, I figured I would just wait it out with UTA.

In other news, look at the email i just got from my advisor:

Ok, I know you are going to think I am crazy but we have been discussing internally today what to do. We have come to the conclusion that as long as you are partnered by the time the ranking is done, which would be October for the spring term start, you can still be considered partnered. This is the final decision, I promise!!!

Good news, I guess! :)

Oh that's great news! So that means I still have a chance this time around...makes me feel a lot better! I agree about the TWU thing, I was just looking into it again for the first time in a while. I had forgotten about the Nutrition course...guess I'll wait to see how it goes with UTA. Hopefully I can get job with a partner! Which hospital(s) are you wanting to get a job with?

I would love Baylor Irving because I have two small children and my parents live there... but I keep checking the site and they don't have any entry level/tech positions posted. After I take my CNA class, or at least towards the end of it, I'll probably apply there and at Baylor Dallas... possibly Children's, but I'm a little leery of them and THR based on one of these threads...
