  1. Hello all! I am currently in the process of applying to TWU's weekend program for Fall 2012 and I just wanted to start a new thread for any prospective TWU nursing students as well as current students! For those of you who don't know, TWU has a weekend program for students with a previous bachelor degree in another field. From what I understand, if you are not selected for the weekend program, they will automatically consider you for the traditional program as well. The minimum GPA requirement is 3.0 with the TEAS V entrance exam also required in order to apply..and of course you also have to complete the required pre-requisite courses. Here is a link to the program for more information: http://www.twu.edu/nursing/weekend-program.asp If anyone else has any more detailed information regarding this program, your input is certainly welcome. I hope this thread is helpful for anyone considering nursing school at TWU. :)
  2. @ Zweiells UTSW doesn't require 2 years experience, but if you don't have hands-on healtchare experience through work you should at least have plenty of shadowing or volunteering hours. Your chances of getting at UNT HSC are a lot better though, since they accept double the amount of students (75 vs. only 36 at UTSW) and UTSW is ranked in the top 10 of the 140 PA schools in the nation. Apparently UNT also reserves up to 90% of their spots for Texas residents. I want to apply to that one as well but I have to take an upper level biology like Cell Physiology or Biochemistry. Cell Physiology is only offered in MWF from 10-10:50 at UTA, and that's a little difficult when you have a full-time 8 to 5 job that you want to keep! Plus, I REALLY want to get into UTSW!
  3. @ MsMila I am also applying for the PA program at UTSW. If I don't get into PA school, I'm also planning to apply for the weekend nursing program at TWU. I opted to not take Patho and Pharm right now at UTA. I'm really banking on PA school or TWU at this point. I definitely feel like I have a better chance with those programs vs. UTA's AP program just based on how they calculate GPAs. Plus, at least PA school will consider my 2 years of hands-on patient care experience as a nerve conduction technologist, as well as a personal essay and letters of recommendation. Good luck to you!

  5. Yea about 2.5 to almost 3 years actually depending on the program. UT Southwestern's PA program is 31 months and UNT Health Science Center's program is 34 months. The only thing I'm missing for UT Southwestern is Organic Chemistry lab and I just registered to take it! Yikes!
  6. Just curious....have any of you considered PA school?? I've teetered back and forth between applying for PA school and nursing school for a while. I'm starting to think I have a better chance of getting into PA school than nursing. At least with PA school you have letters of recommendation working for you, as well as a personal statement that allows you to account for why your grades sucked (if they did like mine) when you first started college. Just throwing it out there in case someone else has considered the same thing...
  7. @tejas Here's the link to TWU's admission requirements: http://www.twu.edu/nursing/bs-admission-requirements.asp
  8. I feel like I waited a long time after I applied before my advisor wrote me. I think it was around 2 months or so!
  9. Congrats!!
  10. Hmm..yea wish I could take this class but I'm already working full time and I'm taking Patho right now, so I can't see myself also taking a CNA class at night for 4 weeks. There must be another way!
  11. Leery because of the contract? It doesn't make me leery because that means they will have good tuition reimbursement, also I would assume that you could change hospitals within the THR system so it's not like you're stuck in one place. I wasn't aware that Baylor Irving was a partner hospital. I'll have to check there. I've primarily been looking into THR since they have so many locations; especially THR in HEB, as well as THR Dallas. How long is the CNA class? Where are you taking the class?
  12. Oh that's great news! So that means I still have a chance this time around...makes me feel a lot better! I agree about the TWU thing, I was just looking into it again for the first time in a while. I had forgotten about the Nutrition course...guess I'll wait to see how it goes with UTA. Hopefully I can get job with a partner! Which hospital(s) are you wanting to get a job with?
  13. I am so frustrated! I'm going to look into TWU now...I feel like I've just been wasting my time with UTA!
  14. Wait...so your advisor told you that if you don't have a job prior to the application deadline, but you get one afterward, it wouldn't benefit you? My advisor told me that if I get a job with a partner hospital after the deadline but before October, I should call/email her and let her know and she would move me into the partner pool. I feel like we are all getting different information from different people! I don't get it?!
  15. I called and asked the Academic Partnership people and they pulled the list for me. Presby Plano is part of THR and is on the list of partnered hospitals. Maybe you could at least find something PRN there and hopefully that would be enough to get into the partner pool?
