UTA Online Academic Partnership BSN Program - Dallas Hospitals

Published

Hello-

I have just learned about this the online (entire program including pre-req courses) ap bsn program at uta. I read about this on another uta thread but it was not as clear as it was explained today to me. This is similar to the twu weekend bsn program; however, the difference is you will conduct your clinicals at the hospital where you are employed. No matter what position/status where you work (partnered hospital), you can participate in this program at a discounted rate. So far, I believe uta partnered with parkland, baylor and thr but I believe the thr program is different. uta/thr partnership offers full financial support (tuition, fees, and books) by thr for the 2nd bacc bsn program. The ap bsn program only offers you a discount but you would need to use either scholarships or tuition reimbursement from your employer (hospital). :twocents:

I am so impressed with the fact that the entire program is online and it is estimated to take 18 months to complete (again including all pre-courses). The program is laid out great because you can take all pre-req sciences (except gen chem), psychology courses, stats and other pre-reqs online; your clinicals can be worked out with the clinical partnership manager. Since I work full-time in a non-clinical area, weekends would be so much better for me to participate in my clinicals. I believe the manager will be flexible with me on clinicals b/c we work closely together on a weekly basis.

I can start earlier with this program compared to the twu weekend program. Some pre-req courses are only 5-8 weeks long so you can complete your pre-reqs faster and courses are offered more than traditional program.

I would highly recommend this program for any career changes, who cannot afford to stop working full-time but have the desire to change careers into nursing. :redbeathe Go to www.uta.edu/nursing click on prospective students, click academic partnership, click on academic partnership under bsn program and read more about the opportunity.

Please note: you do not have to work at a hospital to be admitted into this program. Once you are admitted into the junior/senior level of the nursing program, uta will coordinate a clinical site for you at one of their partnership hospitals.

Is there anyone out who have started the ap bsn program either fall 2009 or spring 2010? I would love to hear how things are going in the online courses (whether you just started pre-req courses or you are taking the nursing courses).

I hope this has have been helpful information for those of you who really need flexibility while in the 2nd bsn fast track/accelerator program.

look forward to your response!

I have only HEARD about this program venturing off to Houston as of Spring 2011. I can't confirm anything. Before I started the 3 prereqs, I had a 3.3 science gpa from my previous degree at a different university. Then, I got all A's on those 3 prereqs which gave me a 4.0 from UTA only. My overall HESI score was an 89. I was told not to worry too much about the HESI for UTA, as long as you get their minimum score which was a 75. I know of one person who has been accepted into the BSN program with a gpa of 2.7. I know! I have also heard through the grapevine that other people have gotten in with low gpa's and that there are those that do not get in with 4.0's! It's weird.. I don't know how they decide. We are all just fish in a pool. Do your best and keep applying if you do not get in the first time. A friend of mine had to apply 4 times and retook A&P until they finally accepted her.

I received an email in March from the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Student Services and this is what she stated regarding partner hospitals:

"I would like to update you on the clinical sites that will be available for the September, 2011 start date. We will be partnering with hospitals in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and with Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview Texas.

We are currently negotiating with sites in Houston and San Antonio, but do not know at this time if they will be ready by spring 2012. We will update you as agreements are finalized."

Therefore, since I haven't received anything else, I am guessing they're still pending the Houston and San Antonio sites. I'll let you know if I receive any more emails regarding this!

Yeah...I remember that email very well. Had me sick and reeling for weeks until I got this one: received an email last week or so (May 2nd) from Dean Ashwill regarding Houston clinical sites for Spring 2012. There are 2 that are confirmed and a 3rd in the works- HCA Clear Lake Regional and Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. Yeesss:D! I started a new thread for Spring 2012 hopefuls so we can talk more about it there and share ideas.

YAY!!so hopefully with more hospitals they accept more students... great I hope i get in im taking the may 23rd start date for intro to nursing and my hesi next week!

I was on another UTA AP thread and it stated that if your not partnered with the your chances of getting in are slim to none?! Does anyone know if this is true? They really dont say anthing on the website about being employed with a partnered hospital to get into the program so im a little confused

Yea, they don't stress how hard it is to get in without being partnered. They only took 15 non-partnered applicants for Fall 2011. That's why I am currently looking for a job at one of the partner hospitals in Ft Worth.

Originally the program started out where only those who were employed with a partner could apply. Now anyone can apply but those who are partnered get first dibs on the spots.

thanks for mentioning that important piece of information they just so happened to mention on their website...so what job would we do at one of their partnered hospitals if we dont have any sort of license to do anything lol thats wierd. So do they want us to be ADN or have a license in some other medical field thats the feeling im getting this is a little discouraging. And its wierd how they dont tell you that when you pay $400-$600 for thier pre-req ... I will have to contact my advisor first thing Monday morning

It doesn't matter what job it is. I think it could even be housekeeping or food service.

oh ok do you live in houston? So these new partnered hospitals in Houston.. say, HCA clear lake, I should start looking for a job there?

I don't live in Houston but it definitely would increase your chances of being accepted if you get a job there. I'm trying to find a job with one of the partner hospitals in Fort Worth. I am thinking about just going up to them personally and seeing if I can speak with someone and personally hand them my resume instead of just applying online.
