Hello-
I have just learned about this the online (entire program including pre-req courses) ap bsn program at uta. I read about this on another uta thread but it was not as clear as it was explained today to me. This is similar to the twu weekend bsn program; however, the difference is you will conduct your clinicals at the hospital where you are employed. No matter what position/status where you work (partnered hospital), you can participate in this program at a discounted rate. So far, I believe uta partnered with parkland, baylor and thr but I believe the thr program is different. uta/thr partnership offers full financial support (tuition, fees, and books) by thr for the 2nd bacc bsn program. The ap bsn program only offers you a discount but you would need to use either scholarships or tuition reimbursement from your employer (hospital).
I am so impressed with the fact that the entire program is online and it is estimated to take 18 months to complete (again including all pre-courses). The program is laid out great because you can take all pre-req sciences (except gen chem), psychology courses, stats and other pre-reqs online; your clinicals can be worked out with the clinical partnership manager. Since I work full-time in a non-clinical area, weekends would be so much better for me to participate in my clinicals. I believe the manager will be flexible with me on clinicals b/c we work closely together on a weekly basis.
I can start earlier with this program compared to the twu weekend program. Some pre-req courses are only 5-8 weeks long so you can complete your pre-reqs faster and courses are offered more than traditional program.
I would highly recommend this program for any career changes, who cannot afford to stop working full-time but have the desire to change careers into nursing. :redbeathe Go to www.uta.edu/nursing click on prospective students, click academic partnership, click on academic partnership under bsn program and read more about the opportunity.
Please note: you do not have to work at a hospital to be admitted into this program. Once you are admitted into the junior/senior level of the nursing program, uta will coordinate a clinical site for you at one of their partnership hospitals.
Is there anyone out who have started the ap bsn program either fall 2009 or spring 2010? I would love to hear how things are going in the online courses (whether you just started pre-req courses or you are taking the nursing courses).
I hope this has have been helpful information for those of you who really need flexibility while in the 2nd bsn fast track/accelerator program.
look forward to your response!

Hey McKinneyMom!
I got a 78 on the final. I am disappointed in myself and also the course. The questions threw me. I learned a lot though! I had defined terms and how they related to eachother but I did not go into detail enough as to how one thing relates to another. I will be honest...I am in Chemistry now and it is a summer excellerated class so I am in class 5 hours a day M-F plus the 3 classes I am taking with UT plus 4 kids that are out for summer plus raising dogs and horses on 32 acres that needs to be tended to while my husband works out of state! WHEW!!! So, I DID NOT spend the time needed for this class. Being an A student, I usually do well without a whole lot of effort and this class was not one that was possible in. I did what I could I guess but I got discouraged early on and mentally gave up I think. So, that is the responsibility from my end that failed! The responsibility from UT's end is the way the course is set up. It was not a learning environment at all and I have had plenty of online courses that have been so that is not an excuse. If you take this class make sure you have the time to "teach yourself" Micro and make really thorough notes. I could have done better but it is done and I will lick my wounds now... ;0) I am so happy for you pulling an A...that is awesome in this class especially and really says a lot about you as a student and your commitment! Good Luck everyone!!!
hi all! i just started my micro at uta today. so far i cannot access the lab portion of the course. is this what the rest of yall experienced as well. i have already completed the lab safety training. i like to be ahead of the game and i dont want it to be friday before i have access to the labs. also im kind of confused about the lab portion. since i cant access it on blackboard i am looking at the labpaq disk and trying to figure out what are we going to be responsible for doing.. do we even need the materials that were provided in the box since we dont have a real microscope to look at the end result with? if someone could explain the lab portion of this course a little better i would greatly appreciate it. thank you all! i look forward to hearing from you
You have to be cleared through the instructor or coach before the labs are available to you after you take the lab safety test. You will not use anything in that lab paq except for the CD. I am selling mine! You will view the slides and use the reading material on the CD. Everything in my paq is still sealed in plastic! Good luck!!!
I guess I should have checked with someone beiges I spent the 210 on it I wish I could have saved that money! Thank you for your reply! Are the labs fairly easy to follow once you are able to access it? I cant even see the directions or questions or study guide it comes up as empty folder..It's so frustrating that we are day two and so far no one is able to access the lab portion even after completing the safety training and making the professor and academic coach aware of the issue...thanks again for your response.. I'm so nervous taking this course already and I don't want to get behind or stumped by this!
The labs are a "guaranteed A". Trust me...a kindergardener could pretty much do it. You have a study guide with questions and you read the section on the CD and answer the questions. It follows it word for word. Then sometimes you have to look at pictures of slides to answer the questions. SUPER easy and takes no time. Hard to believe the same instructor set up the lab and the class because they are night and day :) It usually does take them a while to get stuff graded though. hang in there!
I am sorry you are having trouble accessing the labs, but a BIG THANK YOU for posting all these issues. I will be taking micro in a couple semesters, and this is a huge help. I ordered lab kits for basic bio and chem at DCCCD. I could have easily got by with one. In some instances, I had to patch together what I needed anyway. I found baby syringe worked best for drawing up and measuring small amounts. A pharmicist donated that to me.
I don't think I will order any more lab kits.
Let us know how your course goes.

Also I can't seem to find a lab manual listed for this class. Is it the one blue book and that's it for lecture and lab?
