UTA Fall 2018

Published

It seems that no one has started a thread for the Fall 2018 program applicants, so I figured I would rally us all together to support one another and share our experiences, stats, and where we are in the application process!

Just so everyone knows, I spoke to an advisor today, and they told me that emails are going out either this week or next!

OMG! I'm surprised they are there since it's Spring Break. I wasn't expecting anything until next week at the earliest.

Hi Y'all!

I'm new to this forum, but like everyone else here I applied to the AO BSN program for the Fall. I'm super nervous, but I'm trying to stay positive. My stats are:

I am in Houston so that is my first choice!

3.4 Overall GPA

3.8 Science GPA

90 HESI overall

2 Considerations

Fingers crossed and prayers to everyone who is anxiously waiting!

Houston area for me too!

I talked to my advisor again today. She said that it goes by a point system, and that your two GPA's are worth a max. of 4 points each, and each additional consideration is .5 points and that we're then ranked by a computer.

Wow that's really interesting. Well I can see now how someone with a 4.0, but no considerations wouldn't get an immediate acceptance. All we can do though is pray for the best. This is so stressful though.

I know it sounds whiny, but I feel like it isn't the fairest of ranking methods. Cause they tell us it's primarily by GPA but that isn't entirely accurate.

What are the exact considerations?

Being in the military or being a veteran

Being partnered

9 or more honors college hours

30+ hours of pre reqs at UTA

12+ Prereq science hours at UTA

And then 9 ROTC hours whatever that is.

Oh there's also the previous bachelor's degree consideration

Hold on I'll copy and paste the email.

"Our selection process is based on a scoring system. Applicants with the highest points will be accepted until the available admission spaces are filled. The point values for each criteria in the ranking process are as follows:

GPA's:

Each of the two GPA's (Natural Science and Overall) have a maximum value of 4.0. The sum of the natural science GPA and the overall GPA are combined as a composite score. A maximum overall GPA score of 8.0 can be earned.

Additional Considerations:

Each additional consideration has a point value of .5. Additional considerations earned by the application deadline will be added to the composite GPA score for a combined "total score". A max total score for AO BSN applicants is 10. A max total score for campus-based BSN applicants is 10.5. The additional considerations are as follows:

· Thirty (30) or more College of Nursing and Health Innovation lower-division prerequisite credit hours earned at UT Arlington.

· Twelve (12) or more College of Nursing and Health Innovation lower-division prerequisite natural science credit hours earned at UT Arlington.

· Nine (9) hours of UT Arlington ROTC courses (must be active in ROTC).

· United States Military Veteran, Reservist, or member of the National Guard.

· Admission to UT Arlington as a First-Time Freshman. Applicants must have completed all natural science lower-division and pre-nursing courses at UT Arlington.

· Previous baccalaureate, master's, or doctoral degree."

I think say primarily by GPA because it does hold the heaviest weight in there consideration. Since each consideration only gives .5 points. But Someone with a lower GPA that's partnered, Alumni (previous Bachleor's/ 30+ hrs at UTA), and took their sciences there. Could have a much lower gpa and be accepted.

I don't think it is too fair either, but I am still praying that somehow I'm accepted.

Thanks!
