Hey all, I thought I would set up a place to discuss the next application period for UTA's Fall 2012 nursing program. There was so much info in the Spring 2012 forum, thought it might be helpful to start a new thread...

Hi Lee1920, yea I am nervous about that too. I just got the job so I know it won't be considered for Fall entry but they said it will for Spring. I will start on the 18th and will be on 6 west, surgery/trauma. I am going through the PCAT training program in July to be a PCA I. Your situation is exactly the reason why I will go ahead and start the ADN program I have been accepted to just in case I don't get called from the waitlist and/or I don't get accepted for Spring. If you got waitlisted and you have considerations and have worked for Parkland then that tells me my chances are still slim for Spring. I guess we will soon see!

WGU is online it takes 2 years to complete the BSN. You pay by semester and not credit hour.

Is anyone getting the feeling that they are done making calls for the wait-listed folks, with the exception of last minute drop-out situations or failed path/pharm and/or drug tests?

Lol I wish that number was true though! By the way, I kinda dont believe there is a nursing shortage in our area. You can see a lot of new grads don't have jobs right now, I dont know why the media keeps saying there is a nursing shortage!!!! I hope when we graduate in the next 2-3 years, the economy will be much better...

Thomas, I am starting to believe this as well. I did find an interesting article regarding this very topic. I think it is based on the region. Also, the last topic discussed in this article does point to a glowing factor. The nursing shortage was first reported due to the aging nurse workforce and their impending retirement. Due to the economy, many of those nurses are extending their working careers to help with the bills.

Ok cool! Well I hope to see you around. I work 2pm -10:30pm, so I'm a second shifter. Keep me posted on your status as far as getting called from the waiting list. I was suppose to take Path and Pharm on May 14th, but when I was waitlisted, I postponed the classes until Sept. 10th. So if they were to call me, then I couldn't start anyways. Well good luck to you, and I hope we all get in in the Spring. I always thought they pick who they wanted, because I just knew I would get in being I had a prior Biology degree, and partnered ar Parkland, but I guess not:-( So good luck!

Hey Lee1920, who is the contact at Parkland to inquire about the spots for UTA if you don't mind telling me? I started Monday and have been in orientation....I am really enjoying it so far! There are 153 new hires in this orientation!

I'm a re-posting my post from yesterday!!! I'm not doing it to boast!! Just so others know that THR is pulling from the waitlist!!

I was called off the wait-list yesterday!! I had a 3.76 over GPA and a 3.5 science when I applied!!! I am partnered with THR and have no considerations!!! Don't give up faith!!!
