anyone else apply to UTA nursing school for fall 2011. I'm waiting for an admission decision.

I was not partnered and I was accepted. Retake some classes and try again if nursing is really what you want to do! :) You can do it.

TX grl 84 COngratulations you must have been 1 of the 15 students that was not partenered? Do you mind me asking what your GPA is? I was wait listed and I was wondering if I have a shot or if I am at the down right bottom of the list!

adrialeigh,

I went this morning and spoke with my advisor and she stated overall this applicant pool FALL 2011 was the hardest 1200 applicants total 180 acceptance letters total to both programs! She stated that the AP BSN program this semester had apx. 600 applicants and this time around it was more competitve to get into vs. the traditional. Normally traditional is more competive....Alot of good GPA's; However, those who are partnered(Employed by their hospital) have an advantage over non-partnered(SHE did bring that to my attention)...Very few unpartnered students were accepted..She stated apx. 15 students all others were partnered! Were you waitlisted???

No, my letter says "After our review of your admissions folder, we regret to inform you that we are unable to accept you for admission to The University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing for the September 2011 start session. We encourage you to take advantage of the appropriate tools available to strengthen your application for re-evaluation." It then says I can reapply by submitting a new application to the College of Nursing and that I should speak with my advisor if I want more details regarding my application.

Dyella,

Also, thanks for the information! It certainly makes me feel a little better that this time around was just that much harder to get in! I'm looking for a job at one of the partner hospitals now, hoping that will increase my chances!

Wow, I can't believe how many people applied. That is crazy!

Just an FYI for those who have a previous degree and are trying to get into the AP BSN program...apparently they do not look at your overall GPA, they're only looking at the required pre-req classes and do not factor in any other classes for your GPA. This was a major factor for me because I took all of my pre-req classes in junior college when I wasn't sure who I was or what I wanted to do...and my grades definitely reflected that. I got C's in history and government, as well as chemistry. According to their calculations, my non-science pre-reqs added up to a GPA of only 2.85!! And they're saying my Science GPA is only a 3.25, despite making all A's in my neuroscience classes at UTD (since those aren't even factored in). :sniff: Therefore, it won't help you get into nursing school just because you already have a previous degree, unless you made awesome grades throughout.

It's certainly disheartening to realize that what I did so long ago (almost 10 years since I began college) is now still affecting me today. Since I've worked in the medical field as a technologist, I truly feel that working with patients is my passion and I now realize nursing is my calling. I'm hoping to make up for those grades by getting job with one of the partner hospitals. I have applied online to a couple of positions at THR hospitals but I feel like I need to go personally speak with someone. Is anyone employed with a partner hospital in Fort Worth? Your help is greatly appreciated!

@ adrialeigh

Oooh wee...I feel you on that! My counselor basically said the same thing.

I am still waiting for my letter for Fall 2011. I called today and they send they will send it today. It's just been sitting on someone's desk I fear.

For those that got accepted, did they immediately send out an email telling you what to do next? The woman on the phone asked me if I got an email.

congrats to those who got in and good luck to those still trying. I am banking on me being partnered, on what gets me in.

Where are you partnered Rebecca?

Texas Health Resources- but I am not in the GPA range that anyone else is on here that got in. I also have the worse advisor when it comes to communication. I have been under a rock all semester.

My advisor is pretty good actually, but I know what it's like to have a bad one though! Which THR hospital? I'm wanting a job at THR at either HEB or Ft Worth.

Oh Southwest. Did you get accepted to the program?

Oh ok! Just curious, what position do you have there? I'm trying to figure out what jobs to search for other than admissions! No, I didn't get accepted this time but I'm hoping that if I get a job with a partner hospital I will get into the program starting in the spring.
