anyone else apply to UTA nursing school for fall 2011. I'm waiting for an admission decision.
Tejas 03 and adrialeigh-
I'm partnered at Parkland and have worked there for almost 2 years in a completely non-clinical role. Parkland doesn't make you sign a contract, but I think I've read somewhere on this site that THR does. I don't know about the other hospitals...
You don't have to keep working once you start the program (at Parkland anyway.) It's not an option to go part-time in my current position by nature of what I do, so I'm actually not going to work during the program. They actually told me they were possibly considering not allowing anyone to start this AP BSN program if they have to work more than 15 hours a week. The person I spoke with, the clinical education coordinator, said that everyone says the same thing, that they can handle it working full time, etc. and then are begging their boss to reduce their hours. She went out of her way to stress how intense this program is and said to work as few hours as possible (with not working at all being the most ideal.)
At Parkland, you do qualify for tuition reimbursement (up to $3000 a year) if you work there but they do not pay for the whole program.
I hope this helps you out. I'm starting in the Fall and hopefully you guys will be right behind me in the spring :)
@stephwp-
Thanks for responding! Great info!
Yes, I have also heard that THR requires a 2 yr contract so hoping some more THR partnered students will post their experiences.
That's great Parkland allows you to not work and still remain in the program! I can not imagine working (even part-time) and completing this program. I've talked to several students in the program already and they spend anywhere from 40-50 hrs a week focused on this program. So factor in a family and I would have no time left!
I wish you best of luck and also hoping/praying we are right behind you! :)
AP program... I just got the phone call, i'm in! I am so excited!!!! :)
HOW EXCITING!!!!CONGRATULATIONS!!! So, TX SUZY you are not partnered, I am not either. I have 3.75 science GPA and a lower prereq of 3.57; no previous bachelors degree. DID you have a previous bachelors or consideration of 30 hrs of UTA?? DO you think I may be getting a phone call????????? I am sorry that I am asking all these questions I just don't know if there is hope for me.............Anywho congratulations and I wish you the best of luck!

I have a question for all those who are partnered...how long have you been employed at your hospital and what is your position? Do you sign a contract to work for that hospital after graduation? What happens if during nursing school you find out you can not work and do class work/clinicals..can you quit and remain in the program? How flexible is your partnering hospital in regards to your schedule?
Sorry for all the questions...I'm just really confused about this whole partnered vs unpartnered and need all the information I can get.
Thanks!!
