UT Tyler nursing spring

Published

Am applying to UT tyler nursing program for spring 2015. Anyone else applying? Feel free to post comments.

So can the shoes have mesh or not? I need to have stylish shoes hahaha

I'm getting my fingerprints done tomorrow. That's the last thing I was missing. The school have all my records, even a copy of my CPR card. Now I'm just waiting for the codes. Do we even use uniforms the first semester? We are not taking clinicals as far as I know.

magnis472 I was wondering the same thing, I figured we started clinicals in May (or whenever our summer semester starts) and wouldn't need shoes and stuff until then.

lmkea71 I need some stylish shoes too hahaha but I know that is definitely not going to happen

I bet if we wait to buy those stuff in the middle of next semester we are going to be able to see if stylish shoes are acceptable and then we can go shopping. We even can find more variety of uniforms. Right now the stores must be almost empty, less variety.

I want nice shoes too.

@lmkea71 I would recommend getting cheerleading shoes. Please do not get mesh, or anything thats not water proof. Think about it, if your patient projectile vomit, do you want that in between your toes? Thats not considering people pulling out IVs and central lines. Its a safety thing.

That's what I figured. I found some nikes online that I liked. What about air max? They're all leather I think.

They're good, I know a few people with those. I think mine is Kswiss.

On the third day of clinical in level 1 one of the patients on the floor pulled out his central line and his/her room looked like a murder scene. I helped clean up with a few other students using just gloves. The nurse literally came in right after and announced he was HIV positive and we needed to gown up. The isolation cart was there but there was no sign so we didn't think much until she said that. One of the nurses literally had to throw away her whole outfit and shoes because she helped him shower. She also had to go take a very very long hot shower. Blood was all over my shoes I couldn't get it off the laces so I just bought new laces and put my shoes in the washer twice on hot water and bleach. Nursing school isn't scary at all! lol

That sounds like a wild experience!

I have a question maybe you could answer for me..

What package did you choose for your books?

I researched every individual book buying them separately from the cheapest places possible and for all the textbooks, sim chart, and clicker.. My running total was $565.

The eBook only version is $520....

I can't decide if I should spend a little more and have textbooks only. Or a little less and have only ebooks.

I have used ebooks before, however I'm not sure how it would work in Nursing School..

So did you use ebooks? Did teachers require to have certain ebooks? What was easier for you? Or maybe your classmates? Should i go full textbook without any ebooks? Or ebooks only?

For those who went to Campus yesterday, can you please share the information with us?

I have everything but my cpr.. I had a previous background check so I got to avoid that whole mess!

I was not able to register for my classes until late yesterday. I know they were having problems with getting everyone listed as a "nursing major" so chennaultc091 I would contact Terrie and let her know, she has been amazing to me!!

Did you have a background check done for the board of nursing? I have had one done previously for a job and when I talked to Kadi before she went on maternity leave she said I didn't have to have another one done but when I went to my advising appointment with Terrie she said since it was not done for the board of nursing that I have to redo it.

chennaultc091 Terrie said the same for me as well. I just had fingerprinting/background check done in June and she said they will not accept those because its not with BON.
