UT Tyler nursing spring

Published

Am applying to UT tyler nursing program for spring 2015. Anyone else applying? Feel free to post comments.

It's definitely not my strong point at all but I love it!! Nutrition is definitely 10000x easier for me haha

Eek! I'm scared of all of y'all's science backgrounds, science isn't my strong subject.

You'll be fine, lmkea71! We're all in this stress-pot together! You would not have been accepted to the program if you were not qualified because of lack of science background/experience.

I wonder if we will all be in the same class or if there's different sections of our classes...

Hi everyone! I'm a current Accelerated BSN student at UT Tyler and saw this thread... I'm here to answer any questions if you have any :)

From some of the questions I've seen... you will be in the same class for Patho and Pharm (nursing concepts should be online) and for both of your summer semesters. In the fall and spring semesters, you will be joining the traditional track. However, the school recognizes that the accelerated class tends to get pretty tight knit and will attempt to keep everyone together for classes and labs. What this meant was we just registered for any class/lab section and the administration moved us around.

Yes, uniforms are strict. However, I wouldn't necessarily go to CR Scrubs if you're on a budget (they're expensive!). You can get any style as long as they are either LANDAU or URBANE in royal blue. I shopped around online for mine. The patches and stars will need to be purchased at CR Scrubs, though. Also, if you have visible tattoos you will need to have them covered. For example, if you have tattoos down your arms, you will need to get a white (not loose) long-sleeved shirt to wear underneath your scrubs. Piercings, you can only have studs in your ears for lab/clinical. They don't have a rule about wedding/engagement rings but I've noticed most people don't tend to wear them at the hospital due to germs and that rings can sometimes rip gloves up. You will also need a watch with a second hand.

You will not need your uniform until the summer when you take Health Assessment and Compentencies so feel free to wait. There is wiggle room on stethoscopes; you can get any color or brand of your choosing as long as it has a dual head. As for shoes, nobody's are fashionable so don't worry about it :) But yes, all white, leather, close toed, and no ankle socks.

If anyone has any more questions, feel free to ask!

How many students are usually accepted into the program?

Into the accelerated program? We started with 30.

I'm not sure about the traditional program, but it definitely has more students.

So how many people are left out of the 30?

This is kind of a silly question but when they say level 1...does that mean first semester? Level 2, second semester....etc.

We're currently at 23 but don't take that to mean they all failed out. Some just didn't think nursing was for them, others had things come up, etc.

That confused me at first as well, but you're right! Level 1 will be your summer semester (they consider the semester with Pharm and Patho to be quasi-prereqs). The level/semester also corresponds to the number of stars sewn on your uniform that go above the school patch.

Has anyone received the email to begin the background check and fingerprinting yet, or the access codes to register? I was told this week and still have not received anything.

Thanks,

Chris

I have not received anything yet either, I'm hoping maybe around Thursday we will get it??
