UT Tyler Fall 2014

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone! I wanted to make a thread for those applying to UT Tyler's nursing program for the fall of 2014. If you have any insight on what is competitive, or any thoughts you would like to share.. please post! I'd like to hear from others applying! Thanks :)

Also, do we have to take pathophysiology at their campus, or can we take it elsewhere?

Tyler is a small-big town, LOL. We have lots of great restaurants, shopping etc, but the town is also "small town" atmosphere. For example, selling beer and wine in Tyler has only been legal since last year. You can get mixed drinks/hard liquor in restaurants and bars, but you have to drive 15 miles to a liquor store. You are only 20, so maybe you don't care (LOL). As for nightlife, there isn't much. There are a couple of country western clubs. It is not the college age active nightlife place that somewhere like Austin, Dallas or even Lubbock are. We do have beautiful trails and parks, and East Texas is simply beautiful. Traffic is frustrating, there is not easy way to get around or across the city without going through lots of lights. People drive slow here, probably because there is a cop on every corner and you will get pulled over. UT Tyler is a small university, and it will be up to you to get involved and meet people.

Lived in Jacksonville (30 min south of Tyler) my entire life. Currently attend UT Arlington. Wouldn't recommend moving to Tyler if you like to have any kind of fun... Lol. It's pretty boring! Basically eating out is what you do for fun.

Regarding the patho and concepts classes, what textbooks are required? Any recommendations? Thanks

Specializes in ER, OR.

Hey I actually have a question and I'm sure I can find it here since lots of y'all are coming from TJC. I'm applying to UT BSN in Feb. for the Fall 2015 program and I have a couple questions about the prereqs theyre asking for.

1. UT asks for ALHS 3315 Nutrition but the only Nutrition class TJC

offers is BIOL 1322: Nutrition & Diet Therapy I. Will that suffice? What did y'all take?

2. UT asks for MATH 1342 & 1343: Statistics Methods I & II. TJC only

offers MATH 1342 & calls it Elementary Statistical Methods. There is

no 1343. Do I need to take 1343 at UT or does TJC's 1342 class cover

both requirements?

3. UT asks for Intro to Chem. 1305...TJC offers that but also offers a

1306 Intro to Chem class for Allied Health majors. Which one should I

take?

I've tried emailing the academic adviser at UT but haven't got a response. I appreciate y'alls help!

Can anyone tell me what the pre-requesites for the program are if you are already core complete at a different university...

I've tried searching for it online and emailing an advisor, but no luck yet. As long as I am core complete do I just need statistics, microbio, a&p1&2, chem, nutrition, intro and dev psych.?

Thanks!:)

For anyone who starts at UT Tyler's campus in fall, I went ahead and made a facebook group for us! heres the link:

UT-Tyler Nursing Class of 2016

Okay. The Nutrition that TJC offers is the nutrition that you will need. Also as long as it is a chemistry class it will suffice. I took the general chemistry 1411 so as long as it is a chemistry course. The health emphasis may be a good idea though seeing it is for nursing. And the 1342 at TJC will transfer to UT Tyler for the Statistics. You only have to take one math class it you are core complete at TJC before applying but if you are not core complete you will have to take both statistics 1&2.
