Yes, 'Tegrity' is your friend, trust me. You'll see what I mean in the fall.

Most students use their laptops for notes and it is very convenient. I personally like a hard copy with my handwritten notes on them, but I'm just old fashioned, I guess. I like to be able to whip them out anywhere and study, especially on the train on the morning of a test!

Thanks for the information tictac. I'm a kinestetic learner, so usually do better writing notes. I went to the Tegrity web site and its nice that you can replay a lecture on your laptop. I don't know if I could type as fast as a can jot a note down. I already have a laptop, does the student pay for integrity? Do all instructors use it? Do you find yourself relying on your class lectures and notes more than the textbook? Oh, and don't worry about being old-fashioned, I'm 40, so I'm way too use to handwritten notes. LOL

You don't have to purchase Tegrity on your own or anything. As long as you've paid your tuition and fees and have access to blackboard, you'll be able to use it. Not all teachers use it, but I wish they did. I try not to rely on it though, because as with all technology, it screws up sometimes. But it's great to have when you don't understand something in your notes or you missed class on a particular day.

As far as relying on class lectures more than textbooks, for me, absolutely. I use the text when there's a concept I don't understand or if they specifically tell you that you need to cover certain material on your own. I'd say 99% of my studying is from my notes, and I think I've done well so far. A lot of my books I've never opened!

Wow! :idea: The program I'm in now focuses everything on the fundamentals book. We have even been told, "If I say this or that, and the book says that or this, go by the book." What a pain!

I have a question for you. I don't know how far along you are in the program, but would like an experienced student's opinion. I don't know if UT will accept my nursing fundamentals course and clinical credits. If they DO accept them, I am concerned that I would forget my skills after not using them a semester. Maybe its better for me to retake assessment, etc. What are your thoughts?

Wow, that would be great if they accepted those classes. I personally wouldn't retake them if I didn't have to. I really don't think you'll forget your skills in one semester. What a relaxed semester you'd have if those classes were out of the way! You'd only have to take Research and Patho (unless you've taken that too). I'd kill for a semester like that!

if you sent in your acceptance, your UT Link updates! just wanted to inform yall...haha. Underneath the status link where it says you've been admitted to the program, it also says this:

"Confirmation has been received from you that you plan to enroll."

and also the holds go away too because my CPR one is gone...i dont know why my admissions and immunizations haven't gone away though because I faxed those in at the same time...but oh well I'll give it until next week until I bug them about it! have a great weekend, yall!

I already bugged them about it. They said they won't remove the admissions documents hold until I send in my transcript for this semester.

I put in my immunizations documents, and they haven't removed that hold yet. I assume they just haven't gotten to it yet.

So when do we register for our classes? at orientation? and is there anything required for this summer?

Maybe I should already know the answer to this question, but do textbooks need to be brought every class day? Also, would it be wise to buy both a drug guide (Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses) and Taber's medical dictionary or just Taber's? Thanks

I don't know if UT will "require" certain books, but I just finished Fundamentals of Nursing at a different school (will transfer to UT in the Fall) and I have the Nursing 2007 Drug Handbook 27th ed. from Lippincott and a guide for Diagnostic Studies (can't remember the author off hand). Both books, along with a care plan guide, made my semester alot easier. However, UT may have different requirements. For instance, HCC focused and graded mercilessly on our care plans, but UT may want different information on their care plans.

To add: I have also faxed in my CPR, health insurance info, and a few other things and they have not been removed either. Once my final exam is over (May 10), then I'll concentrate on following up with UT.

Is it necessary for me to purchase an MP3 player / iPod if I already have a laptop? I'm assuming that anything that could go on the iPod, could go on my laptop? Thanks for your time.

Just got a few questions here, does anyone knows where we can find out what textbook we need for the first semister? and what do you guys plan to do this summer to prepare for the program? Thanks!

pleased to make your acquaintance. I don't know about the books, but for this summer I am planning on taking and completing an EMT-Intermediate course, as well as continuing to work for a private ambulance company. This summer will be an insane 11 weeks with school, weekend classes, 144 hours of clinicals, and work, but it will hopefully further prepare me for the rigors of the program at UT.

Anybody else doing anything this summer? Is there anything that is required to be done at UT houston this summer, like an advising session or an orientation? Or is that in the fall?
