UT Health Pacesetter Summer 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Was waiting for someone else to make this thread, but I'm too anxious!

I am applying for the Summer 2019 application cycle at UT Health Science in Houston.

Stats:

HESI Overall: 92.4

Nursing Pre-req GPA: 3.88

Science Pre-req GPA: 4.0

Cumulative GPA: 3.41

My science Pre-req is excluding Chemistry. I'll be taking that in the Spring along with a few last minute pre-reqs. I have 2 F's in random classes on my transcript from a few year ago when I lost my mode of transportation. Unfortunately that's bringing my cumulative GPA down. Still feel like I have a shot though, so I am applying!

I'll also be applying for UTMB Fall 2019, Lone Star Fall 2019, and reapplying to UT Health Fall 2019 (if need be).

Hey, @Kelsey_park I can't remember if you mentioned it before, but do you live on campus? Also, Is campus housing even an option for the summer session?

They do have university housing but the application period ended February 1st. It isn’t the typical go in and sign the lease, it’s a wait list process. So that’s kinda a downfall.

No I don’t! I use the Metro Park and Ride system to get to school from the cypress area every day! There’s a 50% off student discount for anyone (so ya know, everyone) interested! It’s really nice because I don’t have to worry about driving myself, I can use that time to study/do homework AND they use HOV so I get there relatively quickly!

There IS housing available but you get put on a waiting list that also includes the schools of medicine and dentistry (but they get priority since their programs are longer). So it’s not a good idea to bet on it. You could definitely look for an apartment nearby though! Several people I know live in the area :)

Also wanted to give y’all an update on test statuses! So we’re in the middle of our 6th week now and have had 3 tests but our 4th is tomorrow!

For me, the first 2 tests (Care 1 and Patho) went really well! Our test Monday (Health Assessment) was ROUGH. According to upperclassmen the 1st test is usually awful in that class, but we had the chance to get up to 6 points back overall! I ended up with an 86 after the curve was applied (originally an 80) and the class average was an 84. Tomorrow we have our Pharm test so I’ll let y’all know how that ends up!!

I know you guys are ANXIOUSLY waiting for acceptance letters to go out and remember exactly how it felt to be in your shoes. I’m so incredibly proud of you guys for applying and truly hope that you guys get in!!! I can’t wait to meet all of you?

Update as promised!:

I got a 92 on my Pharm test! It was VERY much like the blueprint they gave us to study for it so that’s always comforting!!

No more tests until Tuesday next week so I’ll have a little more time to answer any questions anyone has! Don’t hesitate at all!! :) Much love everyone, happy hump day!!!

Congratulations on your test that’s awesome. Seems like ur killing nursing school lol. And yesss happy hump day indeed inching closer and closer.

Do we need 60 hours completed in order to get accepted in the program? Or do just need to complete 40 hours of our pre reqs?

40 hours including 8 of the 16 required science must be completed to APPLY and be ACCEPTED, but you must have all 60 hours completed before the start of class in order to keep your acceptance and start the program.

Kelsey! mind sharing your hesi score and transcript GPA! The anticipation is killing me. Just want to know what kind of scores they are allowing. I know letters doing go out for another week or so but i still check everyday. Im going crazy over here!

LOL ahhh yes the crazy has set in! That was a “fun” phase!! Just take it day by day but maintain an open mind!! That helped me a lot to not absolutely lose my mind worrying?

My HESI overall was an 87.2% and my individual scores were:

A&P: 80 Math: 90 Grammar: 90 Vocabulary: 86 and Reading Comp: 90

My GPA overall was a 3.77 with my science GPA being a 3.5 ?

This gives me a bit of relief because my stats are around this ballpark and I've read of students getting denied with damn near perfect everything! As the end of February approaches, the anticipation is starting to creep in! It'd be so great to get in such a wonderful program!

I’m so glad to hear that!!! It was super relieving for me to hear too when I was in y’all’s position :) Perfect scores don’t always get in due to a lack of “well-roundedness” actually so being “perfect” doesn’t always have its perks in this case!!!

Now, if you do have perfect scores but not much else, DONT WORRY. You still have a really good chance of getting in so please don’t start panicking!!

Also! My Facebook and Instagram accounts are still linked to my profile for anyone that wants to ask me questions directly :)
