UT Health Pacesetter Summer 2019

Published

Was waiting for someone else to make this thread, but I'm too anxious!

I am applying for the Summer 2019 application cycle at UT Health Science in Houston.

Stats:

HESI Overall: 92.4

Nursing Pre-req GPA: 3.88

Science Pre-req GPA: 4.0

Cumulative GPA: 3.41

My science Pre-req is excluding Chemistry. I'll be taking that in the Spring along with a few last minute pre-reqs. I have 2 F's in random classes on my transcript from a few year ago when I lost my mode of transportation. Unfortunately that's bringing my cumulative GPA down. Still feel like I have a shot though, so I am applying!

I'll also be applying for UTMB Fall 2019, Lone Star Fall 2019, and reapplying to UT Health Fall 2019 (if need be).

I knew there would be a few ways to work, such as your example of you working 1 day a week, and maybe someone can balance working more than that, I was just shocked to hear that some students really thought they could still work 20-40 hour weeks while in an accelerated program! And to be honest a little annoyed that people didn't do their research and instead dropped from the program when someone from the waitlist would have gladly taken their spot!

I personally couldn't work with a school load like this. I have been diligently saving since October with hopes of getting in because I would have to quit my corporate job :(

No reason to let random people annoy you. A lady I work with just graduated from UTH last summer and said she worked full time, 40 hours a week, has kids and was going through a divorce and still graduated with honors. I know multiple students who can work and attend nursing school. It's all up to the individual and their work ethics. Some people simply cannot afford to quit their job.

You took the words right out of my mouth! There was an S1 student on the panel at my boot camp who still works 40 hour weeks while maintaining good grades. It’s 100% about the individual as well as how flexible your employer will be with your schedule. Sometimes quitting is the only option, but as you said, some people simply can’t afford to.

I give MAJOR props to anyone who can work a ton as well as maintain their grades. I can’t even fathom the kind of dedication that takes and I commend them for having it.

I couldn't imagine it either, but that's the beauty of being human. We are all different and can accomplish different things. Some of us can leave work while others can't, I totally get it! There are some major sacrifices to be made for nursing school whether its financial, social, whatever!

My comment about being annoyed wasn't to discredit those who CAN handle working and school, it's just disappointing for someone to take up a spot and drop it the first week of class because they didn't realize the demands of their program wouldn't allow them to work. Nothing personal I promise!

Oh girl we get it you’re totally fine!! The fact that you know there’s major sacrifices to be made tells me you’re already prepared to handle it!! Don’t worry about the others ;) they’ll realize it in due time! As long as you get your spot in the program there’s nothing to worry about :)

Did yall add the school's info to the 2019-2020 school year or the 2018-2019 school year, or both? I just remember taking classes last summer, and summer was still considered an extension of the previous Fall/Spring school cycle.

In regards to FAFSA, I mean.

Should I have submitted another transcript showing that the last 2 courses I need for prerequisites are in progress or will I be okay?

Does anyone know if that $200 deposit to "accept your acceptance" is refundable? I would assume not. I applied to multiple nursing schools and I wonder what would happen if I gave them my $200 and then got accepted to a nursing school that was more affordable to me. Is it like a binding contract? I really want to go to UTH, but I also have to weigh my options based on finances if I am accepted to more than one school

I put UTH on my 2019-2020 fafsa.

I submitted mine but I think even if you didn’t submit yours I believe you will still be ok.

No it’s non-refundable. You won’t pay the $200 unless you’re “accepting” your acceptance into the program. You have 10 days from when you receive the email to “accept” and pay the $200 to “save your spot” in the program. I’m not sure how binding accepting and paying is unfortunately. That would be something they notify you of prior to you paying I believe!

It does come off of tuition though so paying it makes your overall expense feel a little cheaper?
