UT Health Pacesetter Spring 2019

Published

I know its a bit early to start this forum seeing as the deadline is September 1; however, I wanted to have a place to communicate with all the people applying for the spring semester. we might be able to help each other out with information about deadlines, application status, plus its also nice to talk with people going through the same thing as you. I'll just start by introducing myself.

My name is Edera,

I am currently a senior in High School. I will be graduating High School with my Associate's degree, thanks to the dual credit classes I have been taking. When I finish High School I will have 40 of the 60 credit hours completed. I will be taking Chemistry, Microbiology, and Growth & Development in the Summer, and then Intro to Sociology, Statistics, and Nutrition in the Fall. I have yet to take my Hesi, I plan on taking it in June or August. I plan on starting the application this week.

Hope to see many of you here, so that we are able to help out one another. Good Luck everyone!! xhappy2.png.pagespeed.ic.zjIVMhQq4z.webp

Hey love!! If you get into UT, which school do you think you'll choose?

I'm still not sure, at first I was leaning toward UT because of the accelerated timeline but now I'm thinking to graduate later in 2020 isn't the end of the world. That and the drive to UT is over twice the distance it would be to SHSU, so I don't know if I want to commute that much and be that far from my littles in the event of an emergency. What about you, have any idea which way you'll lean if you get another acceptance?

If I'm not mistaken class begins at 8 so you should be fine. I also have two children that'll have to be put in daycare that way I make it on time since I'd be coming from Cypress.

I've also been planning this out for some time even though I'm not sure if I'll be getting in. I just don't want to get stressed having to figure this all out at the last minute.

I've been thinking about all this, and I'm actually leaning towards choosing my other school. I think location-wise and schedule-wise, it might fit my family situation better. I have my class schedule for that school all mapped out, and I can definitely make it work with my kids' schedules.

Ive been thinking the same. With traffic, UT is about 1 hour 15 from me, while SHSU is only 35. Also my ultimate goal is grad school, and now you need a 3.6 or better to even apply, and I'm not sure how possible it would be to make A's with such a fast paced schedule with two toddlers. If I didn't have kids, I could totally do it, but with kids? ehhh.... probably not. So yeah, the only reason I would still choose UT is just bc I'm soooo ready to start making money already, but I need to be realistic.

Our situations sound so similar. Does anyone have any idea about UTH's schedule for first semester? I wish they had a sample schedule for people to see to know if they can do it or not.

I agree, one of the things I was talking to my husband about was how it might be easier to maintain a higher GPA in a normal track program over the accelerated one. At the same time though, I feel the same way about being ready to go ahead and get into the workforce as soon as possible!!

It's such a catch 22. :/ Although I will say that while I would love to be accepted to UT, a denial wouldn't be a blow to me at this point since I have my seat at SHSU. Hopefully not too much longer we'll have a decision from UT and be able to decide which path we'll press forward on.

N3515 BAdult Health Care I Clinical2

N3517 Pathophysiology3

So basically this is first semesters schedule with clinicals. How many other schools did you apply to?

Any luck posting in the Fall 2018 thread asking a current student to share their schedule?

I know it can be hit & miss with the past threads getting responded on, I think once people are accepted they're quiet on here until there's an issue or the become licensed and start working!

This is more of what I had in mind. I know the classes that we'd have to take first Semester, but I really want an idea of how early/how long/how late classes are. Sadly, that will be the determining factor (other than getting accepted) of whether I can go or not. I remember I tried a while ago on past threads, but no responses. That's the problem, once people are in a program, they go and form private groups and don't really come to give any input haha.

Yes, I was hoping there was someone who knew more about class times. I wrote down some general things from info session, but I wish I had something more concrete from past students to form idea of what the timeframe would be like.

I applied to one other program (all the other ones required all prereqs to be done, and I'm finishing my AP2 class right now). I was accepted into that one already, just waiting on UTH and trying to compare how each program would work into my life.

Yes! Even for the two programs I've been accepted to we've pretty much entirely moved to our Facebook groups. I think I'm gonna try to make it a point to just check to the threads like once a month or something just in case I can help somebody else out! lol

Hopefully you're able to get some information that'll help you make this decision, I know how exactly how you fell. It seems yourself, Nursegonzales and I are all having to make this decision with young children in the mix (as I am sure others are also), it definitely makes it a little more difficult!

Yes! with young kids involved it definitely makes it a bit more difficult... I don't want to constantly be absent from them, and I don't want to constantly be annoyed and griping at them for disturbing me while I'm trying to study! Do you think you can call the school and ask them for a rough estimate for the schedule ?

Hi guys. I was following the discussion about what the program schedule would be like, and I remembered a post I read from the Fall 2018 forum. This was posted by a student who began the program summer 2018:

Monday's I go to Health Assessment from 8am-9ish then we have 3 different lab times. I got the lab slot from 11-1. So I have a 2 hour break inbetween.

Tuesday's we have care from 8-12 then we are released. Wednesday's we have pharm and patho. This is the hardest day because it is from 8-12 with an hour break for lunch then patho from 1-3:45. Thursday's we currently have off and fridays we have skills lab from 8-12 (which will turn into your clinicals 6 weeks into the j1 (which is junior year one, freshman basically) program semester). 6 weeks into the program you will either have clinicals on Thursday, Friday or Saturday (10 hour shifts starting at 6). Sorry that is so much to explain!

Hopes this helps a few of you who are seeking some insight on the schedule (at least the first semester).
