UT Health Pacesetter BSN Spring 2018

Published

Yes, it is extremely early to begin talking about the Spring 2018 class, however, I thought it would be nice if we could all get together here and go through our pre-req/application/acceptance journey. It would be fun to lend support, chronicle our stresses and excitements and see how everything unfolds for us from now until the first day of class (assuming we get accepted).

I'll start:

I'm taking my pre-reqs at Lonestar (10 hrs for Spring, 14 hrs for Summer). I plan to take 18 hrs for Fall and will be testing out of 15 hrs via CLEP. I work PRN in a Critical Care unit at a major hospital. I will be taking the HESI in May; once Spring semester ends. Lastly, I have high hopes to be accepted into the Honors program once I am eligible to apply, since I have a deep interest in research.

I hope to hear from some of you! The application deadline is September 1 and there is a webinar info session at 10am tomorrow.

God bless.

I'm sure everyone's application is reviewed it would just be nice to know where we stand! Fingers crossed we hear something this week. If anyone hears from the school please post about it here! I emailed Joann Mendoza but she will be out of the office until Wednesday so I'm going to call tomorrow. If I get useful information I will let ya know:)

GOD is in control

I love it

Good luck to everyone with interviews this week!!!!

I am also hoping to get in the Veterans BSN program... Praying to God it helps.

Good luck to everyone with interviews this week!!!!

Do they interview everyone ? I had no idea they did interviews :(

I don't think they do interviews.

At info session and tour they said no interviews are done. They stopped that a year or two ago.

Hahaha sorry applied to utmb as well and thought I had the right feed!!

Disregard this, it won't let me delete. This was intended for another feed.

Applied to UTMB as well and I was just wondering what your thoughts are on UTMB vs. UT Health

UTH is my first choice due to the quality of rotations and the fact that UTH has a specific rotation for high acuity patients. UTMB may have a similar rotation, but I have not seen it in their curriculum. Also UTMB's start date in Summer is supposedly not ideal since hospitals usually hire after the fall and spring semesters. This is what I have seen on past forums, but I will take either should I get accepted. There is probably someone more knowledgeable than I about this but I do like the fact that UTMB interviews there students. I have also heard that the faculty and staff are wonderful at UTMB.

I have a friend that is attending UTMB right now and started the same time I did at UTH (which was this semester) and although she loves it, when we tell stories to each other she frequently tells me that she should have gone to UTH. Take this as you will, but when they say nursing school is way harder than the prerequisites they're not kidding. It's a whole new kind of learning. People who are used to making straight As are fighting for mid-Bs. The reason I say this is that you need a good support system and you need professors that WANT you to succeed and are encouraging and helpful which is what (most of) UTH has. She feels like her teachers try to "weed them out" and make it hard on purpose and feels the total opposite comes from her professors than do mine. HOWEVER just take what I'm saying lightly because it's all subjective and can totally change depending on who you ask. I just thought I would share 1 view on it. I LOVE UTH. It is an incredible school full of support and encouragement from (mostly) everyone. You will have those selfish people who only care about their own success (trust me there's a good few) but mostly everyone wants to help each other out. Good luck to you guys!
