UT Health Pacesetter BSN Spring 2018

Published

Yes, it is extremely early to begin talking about the Spring 2018 class, however, I thought it would be nice if we could all get together here and go through our pre-req/application/acceptance journey. It would be fun to lend support, chronicle our stresses and excitements and see how everything unfolds for us from now until the first day of class (assuming we get accepted).

I'll start:

I'm taking my pre-reqs at Lonestar (10 hrs for Spring, 14 hrs for Summer). I plan to take 18 hrs for Fall and will be testing out of 15 hrs via CLEP. I work PRN in a Critical Care unit at a major hospital. I will be taking the HESI in May; once Spring semester ends. Lastly, I have high hopes to be accepted into the Honors program once I am eligible to apply, since I have a deep interest in research.

I hope to hear from some of you! The application deadline is September 1 and there is a webinar info session at 10am tomorrow.

God bless.

Yeah! I am kind of in a similar boat you were in.

Hoping for the best :)

Thank you so much and Goodluck with everything!

Hello Everyone! Good luck with your application process! I was in your shoes earlier this year and I completely understand what you are going through. I am currently a J1 and so far nursing school has been a whirlwind- fun but still a whirlwind. If you have any questions, please let me know :)

Hello! That's so cool hopefully now will be in your shoes soon! Nice you took some time and give us some words from a current student. Question: what is J1?

Hello! The program is fast paced, the content is not super difficult but it is so much at once. You definitely need to organized and prioritize school above everything else. I have class on Monday from 8-9 and is followed by a 2 hour lab (1:45-3:45). Then Tuesday is 8-12 for one class (yes, all four hours). Wednesday is a long day - 9-12 and 1-4. Friday we have labs from 8-12 until you get placed in a hospital (about 6 weeks after school starts). It seems like there is time but all that fast paced content covered in the long classes catches up. Thankfully, they record the lectures so you can go back and fill in your gaps but a 3 hour video become a 6 hour ordeal. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need any other info.

Thank you! It sounds like a lot but also sounds so exciting . Thanks

Happy to help! I know it is very frustrating and daunting to make such a huge step. Any info helps :) a J1 is Junior 1st semester. So you have J1, J2, S1, S2 - S being Senior.

Omg so much fun! A lot of hard work but the faculty are amazing. The students ahead of us have been very welcoming and helpful. When it is your turn to be a J1, we will all be here to help :)

One of the BIGGEST adjustments I've had to make in this program is to start studying as soon as possible for everything. I used to be a crammer and I'm telling you it will not work. Our first 2 tests were on a Tuesday and Wednesday of the same week. Some people didn't start studying for the second test until that Tuesday and they failed on Wednesday (btw anything under a 75 is considered failing). Time management is the most important thing. And like she said it's not that the material is super difficult, it's just a lot of material. If you're willing to put in the time and work really hard, you'll do just fine. Also I still work but it's only 1 day a week and I took out a big fat loan to cover the rest, so it is possible but do what's best for you. Also her stats are incredible, but don't get discouraged! I had a little bit lower of both HESI and gpa with no previous degree and still managed to get in.

With all that being said I absolutely love the program. You meet so many new and nice people and pretty much everyone is there to help each other out. It's super interesting too to learn what you'll be doing for the rest of your life.

Good luck to you guys!!!

Have either of you received a transcript evaluation? just curious as some people have applied multiple times and never received anything.

I did but it was either right before or right after when I got accepted I can't remember which

Hi Everyone,

I am also applying for the Spring 2018. I'm nervous but excited! If I can remember correctly people were getting acceptance notifications in the early 20s of October. However, because the deadline was pushed back not sure when we will here front them. Good luck to everyone, hoping we get accepted & become classmates:)

I took bioMEDICAL statistics and they originally told me it probably won't count but when I received my course evaluation it counted it as my statistics class.

Hi, I have the same issue... I was told biostats wouldn't count, and I'm currently in elementary stats using my old biostats notes. I don't know what to do. It's an incredible waste of money to take this class and be told it won't count, to later find out it will. Should I risk it and drop it?

I don't want to tell you to do so and it be wrong. I took my class at Sam Houston but I also submitted the corse description to someone that they told me to do, but I think the person I sent it to wasn't even the one who made the final decision.

I did the same thing! I sent in the course description and even my class notes. And I think they didn't even look at it, because anyone will tell you it's the same (obviously you'd know since we essentially took the same class). Plus, one person told me they would count it, and another told me the wouldn't...
