UT Health Pacesetter BSN Spring 2018

Published

Yes, it is extremely early to begin talking about the Spring 2018 class, however, I thought it would be nice if we could all get together here and go through our pre-req/application/acceptance journey. It would be fun to lend support, chronicle our stresses and excitements and see how everything unfolds for us from now until the first day of class (assuming we get accepted).

I'll start:

I'm taking my pre-reqs at Lonestar (10 hrs for Spring, 14 hrs for Summer). I plan to take 18 hrs for Fall and will be testing out of 15 hrs via CLEP. I work PRN in a Critical Care unit at a major hospital. I will be taking the HESI in May; once Spring semester ends. Lastly, I have high hopes to be accepted into the Honors program once I am eligible to apply, since I have a deep interest in research.

I hope to hear from some of you! The application deadline is September 1 and there is a webinar info session at 10am tomorrow.

God bless.

That's not possible . The deadline was September 15. Am I wrong?

No I think she meant for the summer semester 2017 the deadline is in Jan 2018

Oh maybe she did

Hello Everyone! Good luck with your application process! I was in your shoes earlier this year and I completely understand what you are going through. I am currently a J1 and so far nursing school has been a whirlwind- fun but still a whirlwind. If you have any questions, please let me know :)

Hi! I've been debating about applying for the Pacesetter program or just doing an at Associate's degree at Lonestar. Is the program just fast past or are the classes super hard? Do you just need strong organization skills and priorities or do you truly need to be extraordinarily intelligent? Can you describe a typical day or week please? :)

My sister is in the program and is really struggling but than again she is married with three young kids. If you already have all the pre reqs, I would go ahead and apply to the bsn but if not I would do the ADN. From what I know if you get your adn and want to continue for the bsn, you will still need those pre reqs. I could be wrong but just do your research. Any program requires you to study as much as possible and DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!! If you are willing to put most of your time in the nursing program , than go ahead. I am not in the program but I have applied four times already. Hopefully, this time I will get in spring 2018.

Hello! The program is fast paced, the content is not super difficult but it is so much at once. You definitely need to organized and prioritize school above everything else. I have class on Monday from 8-9 and is followed by a 2 hour lab (1:45-3:45). Then Tuesday is 8-12 for one class (yes, all four hours). Wednesday is a long day - 9-12 and 1-4. Friday we have labs from 8-12 until you get placed in a hospital (about 6 weeks after school starts). It seems like there is time but all that fast paced content covered in the long classes catches up. Thankfully, they record the lectures so you can go back and fill in your gaps but a 3 hour video become a 6 hour ordeal. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need any other info.

Thank you for replying! I too have a daughter and so I think about the program possibly being too fast for me. I have a bachelor's degree in Management/Marketing. I am taking 5 pre reqs right now and will take 4 next semester. I wanted to apply for Summer 2018. You do still need all the pre reqs so it wouldn't be a complete waste if I pursued a ADN then apply for UT's RN-BSN program. I also think about the fact that you can't work full-time.

The school does not stop you for working, they just advise you not to work. There are people here with kids and work and they are moving along with everyone else. It really depends on your personality and support system. I cannot urge you or discourage you to apply but make sure you know anything is possible. Do what is best for you :)

@khaleesiRN Thank you for the info! I attended the info session this morning and I LOVE the campus. I've applied for Spring 2018 *fingers crossed*

Hey! I was wondering if you could shed some light on your stats and your overall application. Just trying get an idea on my chances of getting in!

Awesome! Yes, I saw that there was an info session today! Made me think of the time I came to an info session and being admitted seemed like such a far shot - but here I am, buried in books but I'm here!

Good luck!! Everyone is super nice! Once you get admitted you will see how the upperclassmen will so willing to help out.

Sure,

I already have a bachelor's in science and my gpa was 3.8.

Math - 100%

Reading Comprehension - 92%

Vocabulary and General Knowledge - 92%

Grammar - 90%

Anatomy and Physiology - 88%

Besides HESI score and GPA, and education they dont really look at anything else. I was concerned for my AP score but overall I had a 92.40%.

Hope this helps :)
