UT Health & Sciences Houston... # Game Now?!?!

Published

Hi I was wondering if anybody else is applying to UT Health and Sciences. I am applying for the Fall 2012 semester and have discovered that they are no longer doing the interviews and the application has no Student statement! When I called and asked about it I was told that they still look at all the applications and don't just take the top 10%..... But how is that possible if there is nothing but numbers for them to go by? I can understand how the interviews are time consuming but there is nothing I can say to make me stand out.... just my numbers. I sure hope that they are good enough!!

Does anybody know how the GPA is calculated if I retake a course and make a better grade? I took a semester of college when I was 19, and failed my college algebra (and I studied SO hard). I have retaken it and managed to make an A. I know that they will look at my better grade, but is the poor grade calulated with my overall GPA?

Hi guys i'm a Fall 2012 Hopefull as well. I went to the information session and it seems as it's all about numbers when I attended in September. I have next semester to go then i'm done with all my pre-req's, I truly want to get into UT- Houston but i'm going to apply with PVamu just in case. My gpa is a 3.63 lacking 9 classes, I haven't taken my Hesi yet, its scheduled for December and I am scared out of my mind because you can only take it twice in your history of UT, so. Yeah that's heavy on my mind. They have sent me my utlink id number and i've been checking my utlink for my transcript eval, which I haven't seen yet.

Gillty - Remember that your application GPA will whatever your GPA is at the end of the semester. You will already know if your accepted by the time you finish your pre-reqs with passing grades. But just make sure that your doing Full time semesters..... I've been told that they want to see that your able to handle a full semester and still make the good grades. They said if all the classes are taken one or two at a time they can see that, and that is factored in. Such as if you have a 4.0 GPA, but haven't taken a full time semester of 12 hrs, and then someone else has a 3.63 and has managed nothing but full semesters.. Good Luck!!

dawn - I have looked at Baylors program as well. They are both really great programs, and my only choice.. lol! I can't move cities. UT has said that they are currently in the process of getting their program turned into a doctorate. And that it shouldn't change the core curriculum or the # of hours their program is right now, so that is promising... It's just gonna be fun to try and keep A's and B's through the whole program! Good Luck!!

@Hemphia, I'm taking fulltimem, actually over the recommended hours for a fulltime student, fulltime employee and fulltime mother of a 10 yr old and 2 yr old. I take 15 to 16 hours a semester in fact. This semester I have 16 hours, but next semester will be the only semester since i've been in school where I have had a 12 hour semester. Thanks for the information, I really didn't know that, that's good information.

Giltty - the only down side to UTHSC is that there is no way to tell them all that info. All they will see is maybe that your working and going to school. They have nothing personal on the application :( I've already started filling mine out. And your welcome

I didn't know that about the hours in a semester either! It makes sense though. Luckily, I've always carried a full load, in fact way more than is recommended! This semester I'm taking 15 but next semester I'm taking 19 hours. It will be my hardest one yet. Surprisingly, I've managed to keep a 3.8.

I'm pretty sure UTHSCH asks for your work history to see if you currently work in the medical field in some capacity. I would assume that if a person works in the field would have much more exposure to the lingo/atmosphere than someone who didn't.

I know that they ask for the work history. What worries me about that is like you said, they are wanting to know if a person has any field experience. What about for those of us who have never worked in the medical field? Will they count that against us? Good Luck to you Chunkey Munkey... Hope you get in for this Spring!

Yes they do ask for work history on the application, because when I filled mine out, it asked for the work history and job title.
