UT Arlington Fall 2020 Cohort

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Hello Everyone!!

It is finally my time to post to this forum! EXCITING!!! I did not see a thread for Fall 2020 and I might be SUUUUPER early but man that nursing application process takes proper a year doesn't it?

I am done with all my general courses and TEAS except for nursing chem, one elective (health and human disease), Patho, Pharm, and Intro to Nursing. I plan to take CHEM 1451 and HEED 4312 in the Fall 19 semester, apply in January, and then while waiting on that, take Patho and Intro to Nursing in Spring 2020 and Pharm by itself in Summer 2020.

I have an A in Micro, A&P 1, and A&P 2. This has been a LOOOONG journey and I cannot wait to start!

Has anyone been able to register for classes yet?

Hey, late to this thread. I think I'm applying in the Spring for the Spring 2021? Which sucks because I'll have an entire semester of sitting around twiddling my thumbs.

Intro Nursing is super quick. It was a decent class, a lot of reading and discussion boards. But blessedly simple.

I'm taking Micro right now and I'm fairly certain the best I'll get is a B, which blows as I have a 4.0 science GPA until now. I'm thinking I will have to retake it in the Spring to stay competitive. I have an overall 3.7 GPA.

I plan on appyling to Spring 2021 too in Houston. I'm not partnered. I won't have Patho or Pharm done.

They give you more points for working at an Allied hospital, but how are supposed to maintain employment while taking this program?

Specializes in Critical Thinking-Critical Care.

Try to work part time.

Specializes in BS in Public Health grad, pre-nursing student.

general GPA: 3.492

good luck everyone!!

Hi, I know you applied in 2019 and I was wondering if you got in and if it was for the online BSN or on campus BSN? I have similar GPA’s and ranking and I want to apply for Spring 2022 AOBSN or traditional, still trying to decide.

If you want to go AO what clinical areas would you sign up for? And are you partnered? Houston was waitlisted at over a 9 and I applied for Spring for DFW but didn't get called off the waitlist until the week of Thanksgiving. I had an 8.435. I think for on campus you have to have at least an 8, if not higher. They used to say 7.5 was competitive but I think they should stop saying that now! Also have you finished patho and pharm? That would get you a priority as well.

OK I wanna get this right.. what I’ve been hearing and I guess reading is that people are waitlisted for the AOBSN program if they are not currently working at a local hospital?

Hey@sciencedude1 I saw from aprevious post you asked if anyone was from the valley? Like RGV? Wondering how it was for you to get in and where you did your clinicals?

It’s usually half of the spots are filled at a hospital by workers for the company. Say BSW Plano has ten spots open. UTA will give 5 of them to BSW employees and the other 5 will come from non partnered students. Then they go for people who have their patho and pharm done with at least a B I think? It all depends on your preferences.

How are the clinicals? Are they on the weekend or during the week? Is it possible to work three 12 hour shifts a week. I work in a mother baby unit and don't want to lose my job and I have to work full time to keep it.

I worked full-time 3x 12 hour shifts nights on a med-Surg floor. I was able to work full time. However, it was exceedingly difficult to do. I did AO and our clinicals were 1-2 days a week mostly on weekends (fri/sat, sat/sun, with one or two being on a Monday) but you don’t know where your clinal site will be or the dates until the last possible minute bc UTA just doesn’t tell you until one or two weeks before. So your manager and organization will have to be willing to make accommodations to your schedule on short/ no notice after schedules have already been finalized in order make it work. And if they are just remember your time management needs to be on point because you won’t have as much time to complete assignments, study, etc. as your peers that aren’t working or aren’t working full time. So in summary it can be done, but your organization/management need to be on board in order to make it work. I sincerely wish you the best of luck.

p.s. If your organization/ manager is not willing to accommodate you and you live in the metroplex try and get a job at UTSW they should be more willing to accommodate your schedule.
