UT AE MSN?

Published

I'm interested in doing this program. Does anyone know the average GPA and GRE scores that they accept? I keep searching online on their website, but have found nothing on either one. My GPA is not competitive as of this moment, but I still have to do the pre-requisites, so I'm hoping to weigh in on the pre-reqs and GRE scores to make me semi-competitive. Do you think having research in a health related field would make you stand out? I want to do more than just "volunteer" to show my commitment.

Thanks

I have a friend applying for this program. From what he said, it is extremely competitive and if you don't have a 4.0 on all pre-reqs, you might want to to rethink your options.

As far as GRE scores, I'm not sure because he never mentioned anything.

Good luck to you!

I am a graduate of that program. The best thing you can do is call the admissions office and talk to an advisor. Despite what the rumor mill said you did not need a perfect GPA or GRE scrore to get in. It can be competative but you do not have to be perfect to get in. If that were the case 95% of my class would not have been there. Have an admissions advisor review your transcripts and go from there.

Alright,

Well, currently I'm applying to the AE-MSN program. I want to know if any graduates of this program can make an assessment of my chances of getting in based on my G.P.A. and GRE scores. I am a graduate of UT Austin. In addition, I have my Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Biological Sciences. My overall G.P.A. is a 3.34, upper-division G.P.A. is a 3.36, and my GRE score is a 1120. Also, my prerequisite G.P.A. is a 3.47.

Currently, I serve as an Americorps member in Austin, and I volunteered at least 300+ hours and am still going. I've volunteered at a hospital for 9 months in the rehab wing, and I am a C.N.A.. Also, I speak moderate Spanish, and I am fluent in Chinese (Mandarin). I would like GRADUATES or individuals ADMITTED to the program to give me their honest assessment of my chances to get into the program. All of this information is completely accurate, because it's ridiculous for someone to inflate their scores, especially when asking about their chances of getting accepted into a program.

Thanks for your time.

I applied to this program (CNS) in November, and I interviewed on the 11th of January. They told me that we would find out in March if we were accepted/denied; I just cannot quit thinking about it. I am just wanting to know if anyone knows how many students they interviewed. Did anyone else apply to UT's AE MSN program for June 2010???

Hey,

Yea, I'm applying to the UT AE-MSN program, specifically for the Public Health nursing track. I had my interview last week, and felt confident with it. Yea, I'm definitely worried about it. There are many things that I have been thinking about that could affect my admission chances. How was your GRE scores, G.P.A., etc?

3.42 and 1050 on GRE. I was originally going to apply next year because I was so busy this fall, but I was encouraged to go ahead and apply. I was unable to prep for my GRE since I took it so last minute. I drove all the way to San Antonio to take it with 3 days notice in October. My fall was crazy! I moved here from out of state, bought a house and got married all within a month... I really don't think it is going to happen for me this year, but I cannot help but hope... and it is killing me waiting to find out... how about you? Oh, and I felt that my interview went great, but I am curious to know if they interviewed everyone who applied or just a select group?!?!?

Hey,

Yea, that was something that I was wondering. I know that they started "interview panels", involving three professors. When I had my interview, I was supposed to interview with three professors but one of the them was late. Also, I think that your scores are strong. In addition, they apparently also emphasize "life experience", which of course, is a good thing. Yet, the whole process is a scary thing, I know that if I'm rejected that I'll have to take Anatomy and Physiology over again, due to them being too old which stinks because I had good grades in them.

What other qualities would make you a competitive candidate? Do you speak other languages? Have you volunteered in a hospital? Are you an older applicant? Overall, these are all factors that they consider. Personally, I glad that they don't just look at the numbers, because there are some many factors that could have impacted G.P.A. and the GRE scores. Have you applied anywhere else? Regardless, hang in there I'm sure you'll be fine.

Hi All!

I am a current student of the AE MSN program track in Child Health. I am currently in my 3rd semester, so I know exactly how you all are feeling right now! This same time last year I was combing the internet for someone to talk to about the program, and trying to gauge how competitive I was compared to other applicants, and I found very little. Here are my stats from Undergrad: I graduated with a BS in Biology and minor in Business from UT Austin. My GPA was like a 3.39 and upper division GPA 3.49. I volunteered at he hospital and shadowed a nurse. I went straight from undergrad to this program. I got an 1190 on my GRE. My current Graduate School GPA is a 3.75, with an "almost A" bringing my GPA down. The program is very doable and student friendly and the professors have a high interest in wanting to help you succeed. Some professors have commented that the AE Students can be cliquish, but our group has been pretty close and fun! My friend and I are looking to make an AE club of sorts this semester to help bridge the different groups of the AE program and help establish an alumni network or mentoring system/ social/ extracurricular outlet (again it's in the planning stage). Anyway message me if you have any questions and I will be happy to answer them! By the way you will be amazed at how fast it goes. I started this past summer and I take my licensure in September 2010. Best of luck to all applicants, and don't give up- nursing is such a cool career and you will find a niche! YOU DO NOT NEED THE PERFECT GPA- JUST BE WELL ROUNDED!:)

Allison

ps. THERE IS NO DEPOSIT FOR YOUR SPOT- YOU NEED TO REPLY THAT YOU WANT TO ACCEPT BY APRIL. YOU CAN ALSO DECIDE TO DEFER ADMISSION UNTIL NEXT YEAR, BUT THERE IS NO DEPOSIT- THE TUITION + BOOKS ETC IS ENOUGH $$ ANYWAY!

I am the friend mentioned above starting the organization with Allison, so I am also a 3rd semester student. I looked up the stats when I was applying for the program and found them online from the school itself.

Here is the website that has some stats on it and maybe will ease your fears:

It is NOT true that you need a 4.0 at all to get in!!!

Hey Allison,

I've applied to the program and had my interview on January, 12th. I was wondering if you knew whether only a select group of individuals receive an interview or whether it's contingent upon those individuals with competitive G.P.A. and GRE scores? Also, I had an interview panel with two different professors and it seemed to go well, but they told me that interview panels are new this year. Did you guys have phone interviews or was it face-to-face? Also, I'm a guy, I would assume there are still relatively few men in the program, is that true?

Thanks for the help.

Hey Bookwork! I am 24 years old, I speak Spanish, and I have been volunteering at St. Thomas. I too will have to retake Anatomy and Physiology if I am rejected because I took them in 2005, and they will be too old when I apply again next year. I have not applied to any other programs for two reason: first, I really want to get into this program at UT, and two I own a home here so I would like to stay in the area. How about yourself? What are some of your stats? languages? experiences? etc?
