I am not sure what they base the selection for interviews on...We have about 5 men in our program to date- it is a HUGE plus for sure. ATTENTION ALL- if you are a minority or male consider applying to this scholarship for underrepresented nursing students. Its allocation is specifically for your year and for this group...just an FYI. Also we are going to be starting AESO, the Alternate Entry Student Organization this summer with the intent of mentoring incoming students and providing contacts for everyone to make the transition into your new career a smooth one. Hi All! I am a current student of the AE MSN program track in Child Health. I am currently in my 3rd semester, so I know exactly how you all are feeling right now! This same time last year I was combing the internet for someone to talk to about the program, and trying to gauge how competitive I was compared to other applicants, and I found very little. Here are my stats from Undergrad: I graduated with a BS in Biology and minor in Business from UT Austin. My GPA was like a 3.39 and upper division GPA 3.49. I volunteered at he hospital and shadowed a nurse. I went straight from undergrad to this program. I got an 1190 on my GRE. My current Graduate School GPA is a 3.75, with an "almost A" bringing my GPA down. The program is very doable and student friendly and the professors have a high interest in wanting to help you succeed. Some professors have commented that the AE Students can be cliquish, but our group has been pretty close and fun! My friend and I are looking to make an AE club of sorts this semester to help bridge the different groups of the AE program and help establish an alumni network or mentoring system/ social/ extracurricular outlet (again it's in the planning stage). Anyway message me if you have any questions and I will be happy to answer them! By the way you will be amazed at how fast it goes. I started this past summer and I take my licensure in September 2010. Best of luck to all applicants, and don't give up- nursing is such a cool career and you will find a niche! I did! Glad to be done with the class- Karboski was a good teacher just intense when it came to tests. What other classes did you take/ are you taking now? I am taking Psyc2314 at ACC because they have a weekend class starting in April that is 5.5 wks, and I am currently taking NTR 311 online through UT Ext. I am also taking Anat and Phys II with Machart-- maybe we are in that class too??? Allison

Molly- I am kind of jumping into grad school, but I figure the faster I start the faster I can work! My boyfriend is graduating in May also and has a job set up with National Instruments. I also by UT Club Soccer and I can now continue playing as a graduate student (good because it keeps me at least a little bit in shape)! We are both happy we were able to pull off both staying in Austin as it is kind of hard to find jobs currently and all the UT Schools are so competitive- especially the School of Business (MBA? Wow!). I took pharmacology last semester here at UT, and it was definitely a lot of information, and like no other class I had taken at UT. I made an 89.3, and got a B. Even though it doesn't matter anymore I was a little peeved, but I guess sometimes you just make the grade and sometimes you don't! For my class it was a lot of memorization of drug names and classes and less about concept, but it was kind of nice for a while to know the name of the drugs I was taking and what they did (kind of have forgotton now....:-/). Anyway if you find you need any help with anything let me know! Allison

I haven't heard anything from the nursing school. I went however to the graduate office once and asked them how their system worked, and I was told that the nursing department makes the decisions and then the grad school almost acts as approval. They look to make sure the department's choices have a good enough GPA and GRE, and can make decisions on whether to enroll someone, enroll with some conditions or not at all. I got the feeling from the lady that this is a rare occurence, and she told me if I got accepted on the website then I had been officially admitted. I hope this helps! I feel the same way I think its a little confusing how they word it on the website. Allison

I felt the same way about waiting... I was going crazy! MDiG516- Austin is a great city to live in. I grew up in this area and will be graduating from UT undergrad with a degree in Biology in May. There is so much to do with 6th and 4th Street, Town Lake and the great live music. I am really excited to start the process of becoming a nurse, and can't wait to start. When should I really expect to find out from each school (UT Graduate Office and the Nursing Department)? How easy was it to find a job in your desired field with your degree, and do you feel that your experience at UT was beneficial to your career? My GRE was 1150 and my Upper Division GPA is 3.48. How did this compare to other students who got accepted into the program. I have been volunteering and shadowing the past two years, and I really want to get into the program, but I am of course nervous about being rejected!
