  1. Yes, I've been looking at programs that will allow me to obtain a post-master's certification to be a family nurse practitioner. However, I haven't seen any programs that will allow me to obtain a post-master's public health nursing certification, and I don't see that being a feasible option if the DNP program is implemented in 2015. If that happens, I will then work for some time and apply for the DNP. Also, I live in Texas and after I graduate I'm not confined to Texas and am willing to relocate to where I can find a job. I would like to implement more direct patient care, and that is why I would like to obtain the post-master's certification after wards. Thanks for the reply.
  2. Well, I'm happily venturing into an direct-entry master's program with a focus on public health. I certainly have experience working in underprivileged areas, planned parenthood, and so forth, but I'm curious how the job market will be like when I graduate? I know that many of the nurses reading these forums aren't trained economists, but I would certainly like to read some of your opinions. Moreover, do you think that health-care reform will expand some of the opportunities for nurses going into these areas? Thanks for your time.

Hey Allison, I've applied to the program and had my interview on January, 12th. I was wondering if you knew whether only a select group of individuals receive an interview or whether it's contingent upon those individuals with competitive G.P.A. and GRE scores? Also, I had an interview panel with two different professors and it seemed to go well, but they told me that interview panels are new this year. Did you guys have phone interviews or was it face-to-face? Also, I'm a guy, I would assume there are still relatively few men in the program, is that true? Thanks for the help.

Alright, Well, currently I'm applying to the AE-MSN program. I want to know if any graduates of this program can make an assessment of my chances of getting in based on my G.P.A. and GRE scores. I am a graduate of UT Austin. In addition, I have my Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Biological Sciences. My overall G.P.A. is a 3.34, upper-division G.P.A. is a 3.36, and my GRE score is a 1120. Also, my prerequisite G.P.A. is a 3.47. Currently, I serve as an Americorps member in Austin, and I volunteered at least 300+ hours and am still going. I've volunteered at a hospital for 9 months in the rehab wing, and I am a C.N.A.. Also, I speak moderate Spanish, and I am fluent in Chinese (Mandarin). I would like GRADUATES or individuals ADMITTED to the program to give me their honest assessment of my chances to get into the program. All of this information is completely accurate, because it's ridiculous for someone to inflate their scores, especially when asking about their chances of getting accepted into a program. Thanks for your time.
