I'm interested in doing this program. Does anyone know the average GPA and GRE scores that they accept? I keep searching online on their website, but have found nothing on either one. My GPA is not competitive as of this moment, but I still have to do the pre-requisites, so I'm hoping to weigh in on the pre-reqs and GRE scores to make me semi-competitive. Do you think having research in a health related field would make you stand out? I want to do more than just "volunteer" to show my commitment.
Thanks
I am going to apply this fall and I am curious about the stats you all are mentioning. I see many of you are posting your overall GPA, but I thought they only look at your upper division GPA and prerequisite GPA. Is the overall GPA stat you are posting your upper division GPA? I am nervous because I had some bad semesters where my overall is not that great but my upper division is very good. I have also been volunteering at a hospital since December and will also begin shadowing nurses next month. I hope to have my nurse's aide certification by the time I apply as well.
Hey all-
I don't know if I'm gonna get in or not, but just so you know, the letters should be going out tomorrow for the AE MSN program. I'm going for the Child Health Tract. GPA from BS in Kinesiology was 3.79, higher for last 60 units, science prereqs somewhere in 3.8s, GRE 1180, Children's Hospital volunteer of 5 months, massage therapist of 7 1/2 years. My interview was only with one professor and went well. I figured I would make the 3.5 hr drive to have it in-person rather than over the telephone. I want to continue onto Ped Nurse Practitioner program afterwards. Good luck to all who applied- inc. myself haha! Hope to see everyone there!

Hey Allison,I've applied to the program and had my interview on January, 12th. I was wondering if you knew whether only a select group of individuals receive an interview or whether it's contingent upon those individuals with competitive G.P.A. and GRE scores? Also, I had an interview panel with two different professors and it seemed to go well, but they told me that interview panels are new this year. Did you guys have phone interviews or was it face-to-face? Also, I'm a guy, I would assume there are still relatively few men in the program, is that true?
Thanks for the help.
I am not sure what they base the selection for interviews on...We have about 5 men in our program to date- it is a HUGE plus for sure. ATTENTION ALL- if you are a minority or male consider applying to this scholarship for underrepresented nursing students. Its allocation is specifically for your year and for this group...just an FYI. Also we are going to be starting AESO, the Alternate Entry Student Organization this summer with the intent of mentoring incoming students and providing contacts for everyone to make the transition into your new career a smooth one. We hope to have socials so that all can meet with new students and current students alike. Good luck to all- can't wait to meet you!

Their selection criteria must be wicked discriminating or wicked random. I was 1500 GRE, summa cum laude BS (upper and lower division), summa cum laude MS, published technical author, 4.9 GPA in prerequisites, 20 years experience in research & development, 10 patents, and was still found wanting. With all those things in my favor compared to the averages, it looked like the chances were at least good. That's what everyone said. But during my interview, I got the sense that my age (over 50) and lack of years of medical experience might be a problem. Just as in the software industry, is it possible that you gotta be young, and you gotta be doing what everybody else is doing to get anywhere? And as a male, I did not feel welcomed.

Hey Austin 11,
I graduated from UT with a degree in Economics and a minor in Chemistry. My overall G.P.A. is a 3.39, and my GRE score is an 1140. I volunteered at St. David's hospital for nine months in the rehab wing shadowing a charge nurse. Also, I'm a certified nurse aide. Currently, I work as a home health C.N.A.. As far as languages go, I'm fluent in Spanish. Not sure if that is enough for the admissions committee but I hope so. I applied to the University of Portland's Alternate entry program and I have interview with them in two weeks, and I applied to UTHSCSA's ABSN program in which I attended an open house there recently. Unfortunately, for UTHSCSA I have to take the TEAS test, for which I am preparing. Also, I am taking my last prerequisite Pharmacology at ACC.
So, If I don't get accepted to any of those schools then I will take Anatomy and Physiology again at ACC and reapply to UT. I prefer UT because they have an excellent program and I want to go to a good school because I'm considering applying to Ph.d programs. I really hate to have to take A & P again, no less at the age of 24, but I'll do whatever it takes. Since I'm applying for the Public Health track I've been told that they only accept a certain number of people for certain tracks. I'm not sure how much this will affect my chances.
Regardless, good luck Austin 11.
