Hi,
Are there any USPHS commissioned officers who can share their experiences working in IHS facilities?
What is it like living in rural areas? Please share your stories with me because I am interested in joining USPHS upon graduation (finishing up my BSN and will be done in May).
Thank you :)
Thanks Ultimo....
Okay, Does anyone know if you have to wait until your "active call to duty" date to get your IDs? I was told that Rockville will not input you into DEERS until that date. It seems a little unreasonable that one should have to wait until you official TDY date to get the ID especially if you have to travel across the country.

I have my orders...I was going to get my ID today...via telephone the specialist at the ARNG ID office asked if I was already in DEERS ...I called Rockville, MD to ask and an HR specialist told me that I would be in DEERS until my "call to active duty" date/TDY date...... I wondered if she just said that to get me off the phone or because she just didn't know....none of the people I spoke to in Rockville were officers...they were civil service employees.....
Did you get your ID at a PHS location like CDC, etc. or at a RAPIDS station on a military base?
I just started Monday and I was told you can only get your military ID when you start your duty. My agency granted administrative leave to take care of personnel, uniform, military ID, decal, etc. So on Wednesday, I went to the naval base pass and decal building to get my ID and to be enrolled in DEERS. It is better to call or go on the website (navy) to set the appointment. I signed up as walk-in and waited for 1 hour.
No, only thing you NEED for graduation was the khaki uniforms. The windbreaker/sweaters came in handy for early morning formations, etc when it was breezy out. But besides that, no. Im not sure how the weather is this time of year...PS I ordered almost everything, and my total was like 700!! (the sheet didnt have any prices) WHOAAA!

DEERS has nothing to do with shipment of HHG or moving, but, you do what to get your dependents enrolled in DEERS as soon as you can just to they will be eligible for benefits.
