Using Shopping to Cope with Work

Published

Anyone else use shopping as a means of coping with anger/frustration due to work?

I have found that leaving the building to go shopping helps me.   I've probably left work in the last week about 5 times to go shopping due to being displeased with what is happening at work.

Anyone else feel the same way? If not shopping, what do you do when you're frustrated at work?

I wouldn't say I'm necessarily trying to get fired, but, in some way, I think it's almost a way of protesting/rebelling against the new people and changes at work.

It's passive/aggressive behavior and it's a good way to get yourself fired even if you don't or won't recognize it

When I'm frustrated at work I tend to eat - then I tend to workout like a beast the next day LOL

We all need to develop good coping skills. Try to knock down the days a week of shopping to just one. And fill those extra hours when you're off w better ways of coping.

You got this!

I sure do! I have 2 huge closets full of clothing along with the drawers in a triple dresser, a chest, lingerie chest, and 1 of my nightstands. I do buy impulsively and sometimes I spend too much. I get depressed easily ever since my divorce, yes I am in therapy. Have been for years. I just find shopping to be a coping mechanism. Not the best thing to do I know..

Instead of leaving to go shopping, I've started to bring a book to work if I'm needing a break.   This allows me to get a bit of a breather without leaving work for extended periods of time
