Wow, my instructor was right. Nursing is not a job or career even............it is a lifestyle. I'm on vacation and I'm still nursing, or at least using nursing skills.
See, I've worked very hard to put myself in a position where I HAVE NOTHING TO DO ON VACATION. I wanted it that way BTW. Dinner with the folks, a little bit'o grocery shopping and........thats it.
People asked me before I left for vacation "What are you going to do? Any exciting plans? Are you going anywhere?".
My response" "Yeah, I'm going somewhere, I'm going to my couch with a good book."
But, despite my best efforts, I find myself flexing my nursing muscles and using critical thinking. For example:
I used my time management skills twice today.
1. I couldn't decide what to eat for dinner. It was either going to be chicken breast or pizza. I couldn't decide. So, I combined the two and got both done at the same time. Instead of cooking the chicken or pizza, I ordered out pizza WITH CHICKEN ON IT. See, got both done at one time.
2. I had to decide, watch a movie at home or watch baseball. Lots of movies I wanna see, have had a good movie from Netflix waiting for me for awhile now to view too. But, my fav. baseball team is playing tonight, and they are HEATING up (the BoSox). I couldn't decide. So, I got both done at the same time.
I watched a movie ABOUT baseball (Field of Dreams). See, now that's critical thinking.
3. I also couldn't decide weather I wanted Crown Royal with ginger-ale tonight or Dark Rum/Coke. Used the same critical thinking and figured.................eh.................do both. I aim to be VERY productive, so time management is a must.
So, after a few of #3's have been downed, I got to thinking..............I could use other nursing skills too. In fact, it's a time management thing too. See.........I'm tired of getting up and going to the BR. It's a waste of time. Think of all the vaca. time I waste doing that.
So, I put a foley in.
<_>

And where is she from? Who says "wicked good"?
Everyone I ever met that says "wicked good" was from New England. First I thought it was just a Mass thing but I've heard people from Vermont, Maine & New Hampshire using it too. I don't make the attempt to say with this New York accent even though I like the phrase it only sounds cool when they say it I'm much better at words that start with "F"
It's a northeast thing like we paahk (park) our cahas (cars) in Havahd yahd (harvad=rd yard) :)

I've come to the realization that.........................my fellow BoSox fans are the one's who speak this way.
It can be like a code, for when we are at NYY park (pahk) or something.
And if the Sox beat the Yanks, it's Wicked Good.
I know where you're from!!!! Wicked good.... I say forgo the foley and get a condom cath.....a lot less tugging when you forget and walk away from the couch!
well I'm not "FROM" the wicked good locale, but it's fun to say... err.. write.
Some things rub off on you, even if you don't like it... like a cat walking by you, rubbing their fur all over you... you get those hairs all over you. They just stick and when you try to pull them off and let them fly into the wind, the wind brings it right back. Wicked.
Don't you just hammer them real good with a book or something? Does it hurt when its successful? I mean, not "does it hurt" at first, I mean, is it like...............it hurts for a long time after? I've almost done that to someone, but in the end I was like "Eh, her threshold for pain is low, if it hurts she'll think I damaged her or something."I should take a poll with the orig. posters of this thread, let them vote:
I wasn't one of the original posters on the thread, so I can't vote. Darn. (imagine the newscaster frowny face to indicate concern). I've never seen the book cure but I have seen the red hot paperclip burned through a thumbnail to realease trapped blood, and it was just boss, and wicked fun to watch all that old blood oozing out of the thumbnail.
we're not? Not that I even care or would wish to read a blog, but who cares...??
I didn't know it either, and I've seen other nurses link to outside blogs/videos before but when I put my helpful list of great blogs up I got a pretty healthy serving of whoop - *** leading to the eternal question, "is it ME??" The answer to that is always yes, it's me. Sigh ... worms! An order of worms right over here please!!
yank it.The foley, I mean.
Why I keep coming back to allnurses
U R allowed to vote nurse 56.
When I went and signed up for the gym today (taking steps to correct weight problem), the guy looked at me, and immediately went to the part of the application that said "List all past injuries or pertinent medical conditions:"
I just shrugged and said "None".
Him: "None?" [glancing at the half full bag]
Me: "None, thats optional, believe it or not."
