Hi this is my first post on the forum. I live in Thailand, but nurse in Ireland for two or three months of the year. I am very interested in the topic of nursing and stress and how meditation can ease this. Here is an article I wrote on the subject;
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1989612/the_benefits_of_mindfulness_training.html?cat=5
I wonder do other nurses find meditation eases the stresses of the job?
Thanks

While it might help some it doesn't help me. I can't focus that well.
For me personally stress reduction has to be physically done. Running, walking, cleaning the yard. I have stress induced IBS and I tried meditation to help relieve that stress but it didn't work.
maybe I wasn't doing it right..........
I think exercise can be great for stress too.

Thank you for the link! I've been looking into meditation and mindfulness as a way to deal, not only with stress, but also with fibromyalgia, with which I was recently diagnosed. My son gave me a book on Thai meditation but I haven't gotten quite into it yet. I also have a book on living mindfully and another on women and mindfulness. I have some relaxation CDs that help me get to sleep, am trying to get into yoga (there's a new studio opening close to work!) and I would like to learn meditation.
I asked my son if he is able to meditate and he said no, that he can't seem to clear his head of random thoughts. That's my problem, too.
Again, thank you for this link!
Oh and :wlcmggrp:
Thank you moggie. If you do a google search for Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction you will find tons of stuff about it. There is even videos on YouTube and Google video. I think meditation is really worth effort and there is a lot of evidence to support its benefits for pain control. Good luck.

wow, i just learned something new.
i've never considered myself a candidate for meditation, r/t my inability to concentrate.
but reading about "insight meditation", i realized i have been doing that since i've been around 14yo.
seriously.
i am a very low-key person, who has also been called "airhead" most of my life...
reason being (i think), is i've gotton perpetual feedback that i look "out there".
granted, the bulk of that feedback was from my teens and early 20's.
but still - when i read the description of the insight meditation, i immediately recognized that of myself.
it's comparable to stepping outside of yourself and observing what you are doing, w/the ability to observe the thinking as well.
well, well, well...
i just have to tell you garro, i don't feel quite as abnormal as i thought i was.
thank you!
and welcome to an's.:balloons:

You are lucky Leslie. I find that being mindful takes a bit of effort sometimes.
i guess...
while i can understand where it may be a blessing, it also comes w/its own set of curses as well.
either way, it's nothing i taught myself to do.
it's just who i am.
Maybe this was a natural to deal with the world for us all at one stag
Good luck

I meditate and am very interested in mindfullness. I also use law of attraction with affirmations about already having things the way I want them to be. It changed my life!
