Hi,
I just got my letter today stating that I am on the waitlist. I am wondering if there is anyone else out there who applied as well, and wanted to start a thread for people to post their results. I'm anxious to get off of that waitlist (of course!). It was strange that they did not state how many people are on the waitlist or what number I am. I am going to give them a call on Monday to see if I can get any additional info.
Thanks!
Melissa
Thanks Mfrancisco. Uhh, that's my problem now. I'm setting up a back up plan should I get rejected from USF. I'm not sure if other universities will accept "clep" courses in lieu of actual courses. Decisions Decisions Decisions . It's still one year away and I'm feeling the anxiety already.
Ah, yes, I know exactly how you feel. Being in limbo does not feel good. Urgh. I can't wait until somewhere accepts me and I can have a specific plan.:) I also just figured that I would take the pre-reqs and get As so that it counted towards my GPA, but I see where you would want to save time. I decided that I am going to do a CNA program although it was a hard decision because it means I cannot work until it is over. I am getting tired of not having any income and wanted to take advantage of the time. Thanks for all of the information that you gave us regarding that.
Hi, so I found out about the CNA program at NCP and it is 21 days, part time 8-5pm starting in Feb. I am probably going to start this program but I wanted to know if USF said that as long as you have a CNA license you have a better chance or do you have to have some experience working as a CNA? I hope this doesn't sound confusing, I just want to make sure that I am taking the right step because I am going to pay and take some time off from work and don't even know if I will have my job back once I'm done with the program.
What if I did a medical assisting program instead would that give me the same benefit? I know it's different but just asking.
Are there any online CNA programs?
Thanks so much for the help, I appreciate it!
Hi Hana09, I know exactly what you mean. USF said that you have a better chance of getting in because it shows that you are invested in the career. However, the application is due February 15th, so we will not even be certified by the time the application for summer is due, so I am not sure it will make that much of a difference. As far as I know, there are no online CNA programs. They have clinicals in a long term care facility, so I am assuming that's why. I do have to say that if I had a job and needed the money from the job, I probably would not do the CNA program. I debated whether or not to do the program for a while, and am going to be doing the Red Cross CNA program in Santa Rosa starting in February. I am doing it for the healthcare experience. I am not working right now, and am done with my pre-reqs, so it's either I do that or look for a job (which is tough right now with no experience besides volunteering). Regarding USF, I just don't know if the CNA would be the deciding factor. I was told it may help, but it depends on the applicant pool at the time, etc., etc., and like I said, it's not going to be on our application. I am going to state it in my essay that I am going to be taking the program, so you could do that, too. If you're planning on eventually leaving your job anyway, it may be a good way to start doing healthcare related work. I am not sure if you are already working in a healthcare field.
Hi mfrancisco, thats what I thought that it would not go onto to the application but it is good for experience. I am not working in the healthcare field. I was thinking of doing a CNA program or Med Assisting for the experience but I'm like so lost right now. I think you should definitely go ahead with the CNA program if your not employed. Thanks so much for the help! Good Luck!
Hi Everyone, so I have made a plan to start the LVN program at NCP instead of the CNA. This program would work well with my work schedule but it would take a year to finish. I will still reapply to USF, they told me I was high up on the waitlist but there was no room.
So should I do the LVN program? Thanks so much for all of your help!!

Yes, the price is on there. They have schools in South San Francisco and Hayward. :)
