USF San Francisco Master's CNL Spring 2010 - Waitlisted

Published

Hi,

I just got my letter today stating that I am on the waitlist. I am wondering if there is anyone else out there who applied as well, and wanted to start a thread for people to post their results. I'm anxious to get off of that waitlist (of course!). It was strange that they did not state how many people are on the waitlist or what number I am. I am going to give them a call on Monday to see if I can get any additional info.

Thanks!

Melissa

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't an "LVN" program very expensive? Just a thought.

Hi bleemme, yes it is very expensive around 30grand. But I was thinking that while I am applying to Rn schools and chances are that I won't get in, I can have something to fall back on. My job is part time and not healthcare related, the CNA program is not something I see myself doing because it doesn't fit into my work schedule. I also thought that it is probably easier to get into an LVN to RN program. These are some of the reasons I thought it would be a good idea, but please let me know if I am making a bad decision! Thanks so much!!!!

I'm looking into CNA too and am just rejoining the thread. Hana - I know that there are LVN to RN programs, once you have the LVN license, and they are not as competitive as direct entry into an RN program. I know someone who graduated last year from one. If you had to work first, you'd probably make more $$ as an LVN than as a CNA. Good luck! Does anyone know anything about The Cornerstone's program? How does it compare to NCP's?

Hi Hana09 - Sorry, I can't say with a reasonable degree of certainty whether you are making a good or bad decision. You'll have to make that determination on your own because you alone knows your unique circumstance. I will keep you in my prayers and hope that everything will work out for you. :) Re: CNA program, are you available during the weekends? If so, there are some CNA programs out there for weekend warriors.

Hi - Does anyone know anything about the quality of Cornerstone College's or NCP's CNA programs?

Thanks :)

Hi everyone,

I haven't heard about Cornerstone. I did hear NCP is good. I am taking the CNA course at the Santa Rosa Red Cross starting February 19th. Hana, good luck if you decide to do the LVN program. When does it start? You may get in to USF for the summer, so I hope you don't have to make a decision before you find out about USF. Good luck to all!

Hi everyone, Im starting Jan 25, there is alot to be done on my part such as letters of rec, drug tests, background check, hobet test, TB clearamce and phys exam plus loan approval. I don't know it will happen but thanks for the luck mfrancisco I need it!! I chose NCP because I heard alot of positive comments off this forum and when I went there they were very informative and didn't leave anything out unlike Unitek which I would not recommend! Im not sure about cornerstone though, sorry!

Thanks

Hana09 - good luck to you. If USF told you that you were high on the waiting list, and you're still interested in their program, you should definitely reapply. I've asked outright last week via email what my place on the list was, and still have not gotten any reply. I checked out the Cornerstone today for anyone who's considering the CNA route to gain experience. The cost is attractive - $999 for 19 days: texts, uniform and deposit included. Staff was very nice and very helpful. I sat in on a current class for about an hour, and though the classroom was a little hokey, content was solid. Class size

Thank you gonnadoit, I was planning on NCPs LVn program but because its expensive I had to apply for a loan but its not approved yet. So I might not be able to start Jan 25! It sucks but I may do the cornerstone cna program, when does it start, and what are the hours thanks a bunch!!

Hi Hana09 - the Cornerstone program starts Feb 1 and goes thru the 25th. I was told that the licensing exam would be scheduled for March 14. There still may be room in the class...I decided to go with Red Cross because mfrancisco and I know ea other from school and we could potentially carpool. You're motivated - I am sure something will work out for you. Is USF for summer start still a possibility?

Hi gonnadoit, I am definitely going to reapply to USF and I think that the CNA program is a good program so I may try it out. I am still a little skeptical about the LVN programs at the private schools because if I end up not going to USF I would do the LVN-RN programs at community colleges but I read somewhere that trade schools like NCP's credits would not transfer into those programs! Do you guys think thats true? Thanks alot for your help!!

Hi mfrancisco, do you know the process for reapplying to the CNL program? Thanks a lot and good luck!
