USF MSN-CNL, Orange County, non-nurse Fall 2017

Published

Hi fellow soon-to-be-hopefully nurses! I recently applied to USF's MSN-CNL for non-nurses. I am ecstatic about this program! Any fellow applicants in the anxiously waiting boat?!?

I am also waitlisted. The letter said that we should be hearing back sometime this week.... so nervous

Congrats to those who got accepted!! It takes a tremendous amount of hardwork and dedication to get to where you are! To those who are waitlisted or reapplying/waiting to hear from other schools, I wish you the best of luck! My name is Kaley Orland and I'm currently in my second semester at the OC campus. I just wanted to reach out to you guys as a resource to answer any questions/concerns you may have! Feel free to email me at [email protected] :) Or you can message me on Facebook if you like! Looking forward to meeting you guys in the Fall!

hi Kathiness, I got waitlisted too!!! Do you know if they will be contacting us only if there is a spot available or will they contact us regardless?

If you are waitlisted they should call you if a spot opens up. If not, you will get an email saying spots are filled up maybe the week after they said they would let you know and that you will remain on waitlist up until classes start! Say for example people do not fulfill their requirements like background check, pay tuition, etc. That's how it went for me last application cycle when I was waitlisted. Good luck to you guys!

When were you notified that there was a space available? Were you notified the first time around or at the very last minute? Thank you so much for the info!

Hey Vincent, I had to withdraw from my waitlist status last time to apply for this cohort haha. However when I was on it before, people got notified the week stated in the letter through a phone call. If they didn't receive a call, then the following week after they will get an email saying spots have been filled up. I hope this makes sense.

Hi there! I am applying to this program for spring 2018. Do you mind telling me your stats and if you have any tips for the application ?

Hi there! I'm applying to this program for spring 2018 and would appreciate any tips you have to approach the application. Also, do u mind telling me your stats?

Hi everyone!

Congratulations to everyone starting this Fall.

I'm applying for Spring 2018 and I would also appreciate any advice on the apps.

Do they mostly accept those who have a lot of health care related experience whether it is volunteer/job? I finished my undergrad degree in Psychology and became a Behavior Interventionist straight out of undergrad for a year; I worked with children with autism. My professor also offered me to become his "TA" and help out for his Fall Microbiology class and tutor students who need help. I'm wondering if this will suffice or should I volunteer at a hospital while waiting to get in or possibly just apply for Fall 2018 to gain health care experience?

Hi Macyymace --

Yes, volunteer at the hospital. You'll learn so much. Sometimes hospitals take a long time to onboard volunteers. You could look into volunteering for a hospice. If you're in Orange County, PM me and I'll give you the name of the hospice I have some info on. For pre-nursing students they even let you participate in interdisciplinary team meetings where you get to hear all about a patient's medical case, doctor's opinion, nurses' opinions, and social worker's updates. This is an off-the-beaten-path way to get healthcare exposure that is also very meaningful.

For your application, read some literature published by the AACN about the "clinical nurse leader" role, and work your understanding into your statement of purpose.

Good luck! Hope to see you on campus.

Thank you so much for the tip! I'm still new on this forum, so I'm not sure how to PM, but as of now, I'm not located in the OC area, so it might be too much of a drive if I volunteer there. I really appreciate it though. I will look into hospice care volunteer opportunities around the South Bay. It's great to hear that they offer volunteers the opportunity to be in those meetings!

Anyone here get off the waitlist in the session they applied ?
