Hello everyone. I was searching for a thread but could not find one so I am starting this discussion topic for USF MSN non nurse spring 2018 applications.
Lets all discuss our stats like GPA, volunteer experience, etc. I have a decent prerequisite GPA right now. I have registered for Micro and psychology and will be taking in fall. My undertgrad GPA is 3.15 in computer applications (not that good). After working in customer service I was no longer interested in computers so decided to change my major.
Lets start this journey together and good luck to everyone.
Hi Kate, I sent mine exactly on 9/1.Sorry to hear those who were rejected - keep chugging along and try to keep your chin up.
Also: try grammarly to edit your personal statements, it helped me a lot on my own work. I also recommend trying online health certification classes or classes provided by the county (sometimes for free or discounted).
what kind of health certificates that are free are you referring to?
I am also waiting for a decision - SF campus. I think we are total of 17 or more on this forum who applied for SF campus, out of which 5 people got their decisions today and 6 of us are still waiting. Not sure about the rest of the people.
Did anyone else get a decision yet? Anyone who got acceptance for SF campus?
I am just trying to figure out if USF sent out acceptances also..
Goodluck to you all!
Edit - please like this comment if you have not received your application status yet, so that way we can figure out how many people are still waiting. I will appreciate your participation. Thank you.
@macyymace I would drop it. Over the summer I took a physio class and I didn't like my professor and thought I wouldn't get an A with her so I decided to drop and take it in fall. However since it was a core pre req I wanted to make sure the W wouldn't affect anything. I emailed Erin and she said they don't account Ws as long as they're under 5. So, I think you should be fine :)
I'm sorry to all those people who got their denials today. There are just too many good applicants and not enough seats- wish they would increase their class size. It would be more beneficial for them anyway I don't get why they don't do that. Best of luck to you all and don't lose hope!

Aah!! Thank you so much for this!!! I was trying to call all day and emailing diff people/offices. This definitely puts my mind to ease. However, Tracy forwarded my email to Ingrid, so it'll just be a reassurance once she responds :)
Dear waitlisted & rejected, be positive and keep at it. Let this experience grow you into a tougher, more determined and resourceful candidate. If there is a defining aspect to the application, it's the personal statement--this is what greenlights you. It shows who you are, your life's experiences, and how you convey vital information. The rest of the application is just general check-offs. I told a story, not a good one, not a great one, but a superlative one with heart, and...it was 3 pages at 10pt font. Crazy, right? They want to hear a story, a real story, and told with some precision, humility, and yes, some humor. The panel goes through almost 1000 applications meaning reading roughly 2-3 thousand pages of mostly superfluous boring narratives and probably edited with grammarly so everything is basic subject verb agreement yadda yadda and sound the same--don't fall into this chasm. Your essay has to stand out. It has to be the diamond in the rough. Read it aloud to a friend; have them read it aloud to you. If there is sleeping or cringing involved, cut it. If there are some laughs or tears, keep it. Imagine reading 1000 personal essays--I can't even fathom that--you can't pay me to do that. Regardless, who are you going to remember, which ones do you want to live vicariously through, who's the hero in the crowd? Hint: it better be yours. Writing is not easy, it's as art, and like everything fine, takes time. Write an engaging pertinent essay and the doors will open. In the words of one of my favorite USC professors "I don't give a damn if it's a grocery list, make it dazzling." This advice pays off every time...good luck and blessings to all
