Hello everyone! I am currently waitlisted in the spring 2017 cohort starting in Jan for the USF MSN-CNL non-nurse cohort 23, but I wanted to start a thread for those of you applying to the summer 2017 semester because if I don't get off the waitlist I will be reapplying for summer, and if I do get off the waitlist I can help you all with info on how the process works and what to expect. Either way, since I am going through it right now, I hope to be able to help new applicants. This time can be very stressful. Who all out there is applying?
Thanks for all of the support and positive words @afton and @gabriel. It's definitely been a journey to make it this far! I'm trying to stay hopeful about not hearing ANYTHING so far, and I'm assuming (fingers crossed) that we're just on the waitlist. I can't bank on getting in on this waitlist either as there's no guarantee, so I'm trying to scramble on my application for SMU's ABSN program.
... I'm going to start finishing more pre reqs for the SMU ABSN program (I'm missing pharm, patho, nutrition, and developmental psych) and ordered my study book for the HESI a2 exam. Trying not to put all my eggs in one basket like I've been doing for the past year.Good luck to everyone, thank you for supporting each other!
Oops I saw your comment after I posted. Guess we were typing at the same time! We're in the same boat for SMU! I still need patho, pharm and interpersonal communications. I bought Elsevier's HESI Exam Review book to study off of.
I took Dev Psych with Dr. Lisa Harrison online last summer at CCSF. She was great! I also just applied for SBCC for pharm and patho for this summer.

@ckleo I love Dr. Lisa!! She's fantastic. She wrote a letter of recommendation for me for all of my applications. I took pharm and patho online at SBCC - great experience. I took interpersonal comm as a spring or summer hybrid course (it was mostly online and we met in class 3 or 4 times) with Merritt College. I had a great experience but I can't remember the name of the professor - its been a few years. I have heard the interpersonal comm hybrid course at CCSF is great and the professor is great but it fills up ridiculously fast.
The HESI was not the bad at all. I bought the study guide published by HESI (HESI Guide), studied hardcore for about a month and scored over 90 on all of the sections. I highly recommend it. It was especially helpful with the math (not my strong suit).
Yes I agree with all of your comments. We all have strengths in different areas and they have certain expectations. Everything simply happens for a reason! I am also taking patho and pharm. with SBCC right now online and fingers crossed interpersonal communication over the summer. I have already taken the HESI because it was required for an Arizona school i was accepted to but could not leave my family at the time. I loved the HESI sooooo much more than the TEAS. As long as you study the HESI book and study guides offered you'll do amazing. I scored over 96% in every category and I am not a great test taker.
yeah, afton and aposse, i really cannot believe you weren't both admitted straight away...
still can't believe i was admitted.
then again, you have other awesome opportunities, and maybe they knew you would, so i am way excited for you both. i told my wife one day, "you can't believe the quality of applicants...look at this girl: she got into John Hopkins. John Hopkins!!!"
@Aposs..forgot to say congrats at getting into JHU!! I took some classes with them online and I wanted to apply there soo bad for nusing. But can't move anywhere at the moment. I visited the school its beautiful and it is extremely reputable...I also got as far as looking up rent and cost of living and its much cheaper than the SF bay area if you live locally. i really hope you accept!!

Well said, @afton and @gabe. I am not going to lie I was pretty disappointed when I didn't receive a call from USF. I'm assuming I'm waitlisted. And I have some reservations and anxiety about accepting a Johns Hopkins but I'm 85% sure I will be.
I think the big thing to take away from all of this (whether you were accepted, denied or waitlisted) is that this is just one more step on the journey to accomplishing your career goals. I may be wrong, but for many of this I feel like the dream/goal to be an RN, NP or DNP, etc. was a coveted dream that at one point did not seem possible - this was definitely the case for me. Every denial or waitlisted situation is an opportunity for us to grow as individuals and applicants. I know my denial from USF last year pushed me to applying to every institution that offered an MSN in the area I want to be in and it made me really think about what I wanted to in the healthcare industry, how I wanted to contribute, how specialized I wanted to be in my field, etc. And I think that was reflected in my PS for both USF and JHU but in the end JHU was the one who decided to take me. Even if I don't accept (highly unlikely) I will always have that.
I wish everyone the best of luck!! And I am extremely grateful that I found this forum and all of you wonderfully supportive folks!
