USF MSN-CNL non-nurse summer 2017

Published

Hello everyone! I am currently waitlisted in the spring 2017 cohort starting in Jan for the USF MSN-CNL non-nurse cohort 23, but I wanted to start a thread for those of you applying to the summer 2017 semester because if I don't get off the waitlist I will be reapplying for summer, and if I do get off the waitlist I can help you all with info on how the process works and what to expect. Either way, since I am going through it right now, I hope to be able to help new applicants. This time can be very stressful. Who all out there is applying?

I'm not sure. It's $104 for all 3 books. "Prioritization, delegation and assignment" is $30 by itself. Some of the reviews say "prioritization, delegation and assignment" is far better than the Kaplan NCLEX study review book. But I've only skimmed the reviews so far.

so...if i understand this process, if calls are going out tomorrow, then a change in status should occur sometime today...?

@gabe yes! If we don't hear of any status changes, it's likely that we will be waiting until next week or the week after! I do recall some decisions being made available on Thursday of last round as far as declines go, and then another round on that Thursday night said they had status changes, then the next day those same people either got a rejection letter at 8am, or got called for acceptance throughout the day.

@aposse, congrats! What should happen if you get accepted to USF? Which of the two would you attend to?

Does the edition matter? Would it matter if I were to get an older edition for a cheaper price?

Side note: before you guys start the program you should buy "strategies for test success" by Saunders. I got it on amazon for like 35$. I'm reading it now and it's a really great resource for getting prepared to answer nclex style questions all through nursing school as well as when you're studying for boards. Honestly I like to be prepared and really understand what I'm getting myself into and since nursing school testing is so different, it's helping ease my nerves. I read that it was a good book to get before starting a nursing program. Also get the Saunders Nclex RN comprehensive review (best prep book)! Just a suggestion :)

@aposse, I was also thinking thinking about doing Uber/Lyft if my work wont budge on my hours; however, I have such a good relationship with my colleagues and with management, I'll see if I can sweet talk them into it :).

@gabriel, that is the exact hour I want to keep my benefits. I'm hoping I don't have to quit.

Also, I just recently checked my status and it is still the same. How about everyone else?

Good morning!

I just recently joined this forum. I appreciate everyone's input into this as it has made it easier to understand the entire process. It's been great to hear people's success stories and perseverance. I am also waiting on this decision and I've been hoping @aftonheistand is correct in that the decision will be handed tomorrow. Kind of tired of waiting.

No change yet for me. I've begun checking my application and this forum at least once every few hours. It's almost like a tick at this point. I hope we all get a decision soon :p Being patient is so much harder than I thought it would be. @aftonheistand- thank you so much for all of your help. You've helped calm my nerves and definitely did make the waiting process less stressful.

@gabriel, that is the exact hour I want to keep my benefits. I'm hoping I don't have to quit.

same here...20hrs a week is minimum to maintain benefits with UCSF. having 3 kids, benefits matter a lot more to me than they ever did when i was single. i understand Grad Plus Loans can be increased to cover insurance costs, but still, i'd love to keep the benefits i have.

ha...speaking of benefits, in hopes of getting into the program and losing what i currently have, i just had a full physical, 2 x-rays, a bunch of lab work done, and my wisdom teeth removed yesterday. yay!!!)))

No change in status for me either! Seriously! I'm trying to take care of my medical stuff before I don't have benefits anymore. I just went to the dentist on Monday! I've considered switching my full-time role to a part-time while in nursing school but there were also times where I felt spread too thin, especially when there were overlapping deadlines. Hopefully it'll work out for the rest of you - especially with the families!

@easybreezy from my understanding the edition doesn't really matter. Nothing really changes from edition to edition, more of just the "look" of things. So I'd say you'd be safe to get a later edition for cheaper!!

@glash you're so sweet no problem I am happy to help! I hope you hear good news soon!!

@egher I hope that I am right too on the timing! I will feel bad if this doesn't happen tomorrow lol. I'm just going by what happen just last round. Hopefully they are pretty consistent! Technically the website says "8-10 weeks", but last semester it was exactly 8 weeks :)

My status is the same as of now. Ill keep you guys updated too!

@aposse, congrats! What should happen if you get accepted to USF? Which of the two would you attend to?

Thanks, @Easy! I have no clue what I will do. I haven't received a phone call or an admissions packet from Johns Hopkins yet but quite a few people on the JHU thread mentioned they were selected for scholarships and some extra financial aid. I think it will really depend on that for me. JHU is over $120k for the entire program. Plus my husband will stay here so there is the added expense for paying for 2 apartments, transportation, etc. Also the class size is kind of a concern for me. The fall cohort for JHU is 140 students. I need to find out what the student to teacher ration is. It will be a very difficult decision though - they are both fantastic schools with amazing reputations.
