Hello everyone! I am currently waitlisted in the spring 2017 cohort starting in Jan for the USF MSN-CNL non-nurse cohort 23, but I wanted to start a thread for those of you applying to the summer 2017 semester because if I don't get off the waitlist I will be reapplying for summer, and if I do get off the waitlist I can help you all with info on how the process works and what to expect. Either way, since I am going through it right now, I hope to be able to help new applicants. This time can be very stressful. Who all out there is applying?
I guess I want to add also that although going through a lot of pain and stress last semester being waitlisted and waiting for 3 months and then a spot not opening up, it REALLY makes it that much more amazing when you finally get that acceptance letter. I cried (LOL) so basically don't give up no matter what and know that you WILL get in if you don't give up (although I have faith in you guys that you'll be in this round!!!!)
Lol!!! I guess I forgot to mention how many times I cried during the waitlist process I almost felt silly for caring so much but, I mean when your hopes and dreams you worked so hard for are on the line, it's really scary! Sounds like you wrote an amazing personal statement with all those edits from medical professionals and they care about the ps a lot so I'm sure you're gonna get in!!!
i sure hope so. i can only hope i communicated well enough how important and invested i am in this...without telling them straight up that i'll cry like a baby if i don't get in.
i'll definitely be buying some bottles of wine to show my gratitude if i make the cut. i spent so much time with my PS first draft and my first reviewer told me, "throw it away and start over." that was like a punch in the gut...but he immediately followed up with amazing advice and instruction. i'm sure i wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell without their help and support - PS and recommendations.
if i don't get in, then i'm not sure i ever would.
You will get in, @gabriel. It might be this year, it might be next year. We are applying to schools in an incredibly saturated and competitive city. It broke my heart last year when I didn't get in to any of the 3 schools I applied to. But it helped me really narrow down what it is I want to do with my future nursing career and what I need to do to achieve those goals. This year I applied to 5 different programs. If I don't get in this year then I'll apply to 10 programs next year.
Don't give up. Keep doing things that will make you passionate, competitive candidate. We'll all get there!
@aposse when do you hear back from your other schools? Good luck! You sound like you really want this bad enough to not give up and I'm sure you're getting in this year!!!!!!
@gabe ya I'm sure the hard work will pay off of making that personal statement perfect!!
I really hope you both get in!!!!
@afton I'm still holding out for USF. Samuel Merritt said they didn't have any updates so I'm not sure what that means. Johns Hopkins is saying March or April. SF State said to be prepared for possible interviews the last week of March and first week of April.
They definitely like to make you wait.
Yes they do!! Let me know if you need anything as far as prepping for interviews seeing as I just had mine. Is the SMU absn program you applied to starting in April or June? I know that program is a completely different deptartment then the ELMSN where I got in so it's all different timelines. Would you be on oakland campus? Maybe we will be classmates! Haha! USF is your first choice?
USF is definitely my first choice. I'm really ready to earn my masters but I'm not ready to be an NP.
Samuel Merritt is April, May or June. My priority list on my application was (1) May in June, (2) June in San Mateo, (3) April in San Mateo.
I'll be happy if I get in to SMU. A BSN is one step closer to my dream but getting in to an MSN program would be the icing on the cake for me.

Hi again everyone, idk why I am not getting notified when people comment!
Congrats on those who are still in the running. This in fact means you made it through the first round of denials!
@gabe don't be too hard on yourself go after what you want and chase those goals!!!! That's cool that your wife has already been through the process and I'm sure that helps! My husband is an engineer and no one in my family is in the medical field so it's hard explaining things to them lol luckily I have a lot of nurse friends who help me out!! if you want to take the gre you could apply to the ELMSN program at sf state! If you wanted to apply to SMU youde have to take the hesi (which wasn't that bad) and then extra classes if you haven't taken these yet (lifespan psych and interpersonal communication)! I'm in them right now because I was putting them off but I'm glad I decided to apply to SMU!
You guys should expect acceptance calls around March 15th, for last cycle they got called exactly at 8 weeks. At that 8 week mark a lot of people got denied at the same time, and were posting that on or forum. That same morning. Then us waitlisters got the waitlist letter in the mail 2-3 days later, but by the 8 week mark everyone pretty much knew their decision! I hope that helps! If you guys have any more questions I am happy to help!
