USF MSN-CNL non-nurse spring 2017

Published

Hey guys! I wanted to start a threat for those of you applying to USF's MSN-CNL program for this spring! Deadline is Sep 1st, still some time to go! Who is out there that is applying?? :)

I am. Still working on a few app reqs. Attending any of the Information Session?

Just so you know, the deadline for Spring 2017 has been moved to October 15, 2016.

Same! I am taking Micro over the summer then I am all set to apply. I did attend the info session in April! Did you? Ingrid from admissions says that the deadline is still Sept 1st, where did you hear that it was Oct 15th? None the less I will definitely submit a few weeks early. I have already written my PS and asked my recommenders for letters. I wish time would go faster! I did my undergrad at USF and it is a wonderful school.

I am debating between applying to this program and the Samuel Merritt ABSN program for the April 2017 start. What are your thoughts on USF MSN v. Samuel Merritt ABSN??? Does anyone know anyone who has gotten a job at a hospital after graduating from the USF program?

hi everyone i am applying as well! @ aftonheistand was the information session helpful? did they help you with any tips on the application process? I have applied twice to this program and have been denied, hoping the third try will be the lucky one.

Tkretsch, are you applying to any other programs? I just heard of someone who couldn't get a job at an SF hospital with the usf msn degree bc the required a BSN even if you have an msn. So usf grads applying to such hospitals are totally screwed. I decided to go for the samuel Merritt ABSN. Next program starts in April!

Hi @Natalie513, I have been looking at many MSN programs throughout California (USF, USD, Western, UC Davis, etc.) and other places like arizona, chicago and washington! Wow that is so weird I have not heard of that problem until now. I would think that because an MSN is higher it would not be a problem!

I know right!! Some programs like SF state CNS offer both degrees but usf does not. However I have decided to get the BSN to start and maybe return to school down the line. I would check with any hospitals you want to target (eg ucsf) and see if they hire nurses with an MSN but no BSN.

I originally applied to USF Summer 2016 program but had my applicafion deferred to Spring 2017 because They told me to retake my Psych class.

Hi all! Having completed my bachelors degree at USF, I do know many students who were in the MSN program at USF, 5 of which got a job at Stanford right away after graduation, have not heard that there are any problems getting a job! The deadline is getting closer! I am getting so nervous! @tkretsch the info meeting was very helpful! But, it basically covered the same info you can find on the website! There are also webinars that you can listen to if you are unable to attend! The only down side to USF is the cost, but for me it is worth it! Good luck to everyone who is applying! If you want any info on the school itself, done hesitate to ask! :)

MSN > BSN, the USF CNL programs runs the masters theory CNL info concurrent with the BSN program. That being said I have talked with some who felt that having 2 different mindsets/theory being taught at the same time is a bit difficult to manage. Both require NCLEX for obvious reasons of employment, but BSN programs focus specifically on nursing skills without any attention being diverted to the masters theory portion. Depends on the person perhaps but MSN have an advantage over a BSN when it comes upward mobility in hiring (from what I'm told by friends who work in the field).

I'm applying to the program for Spring '17 & have already applied to the Sam Merrit Spring '17 ELMSN CM program as well in Sacramento.

Hello!

I am also applying to the program and exceptionally nervous! I hold a BS in Psych and Masters in Healthcare Administration.
