USF 2014 applicants?

Published

Just wondering if there are any USF applicants out there? I had a couple questions :)

I can't wait to meet you all April 11th!

Hey; that's wonderful! Congratulations! i'm sure it's a great relief... See you next Friday!

Hi everyone, congrats on your acceptances! I am new to this discussion post but just wanted to say I was also offered a position for the program this summer after being waitlisted but had to decline due to my acceptance at UCF. Hope someone gets the spot who really wants it!

It is a HUGE relief! I am very excited and my parents live in tampa so I am moving back in with them for the duration of the program.

does anyone know anyhow about the excess hours surcharge? I am reading about it because it says that it may be an issue as all the accelerated students have over 120 credits already. I know that this starts in 2009 and I started my undergraduate degree in 2008. Does anyone know how this works or how/if it will affect the accelerated students financially?

If any knows anything it would be a big help. I'm trying to make sure I'm not interrupting it incorrectly :)

The surcharge for excess hours won't affect you. It's 120 hours for EACH degree. So you'll be starting over for your nursing degree.

After speaking to about 9 people at USF and finally talking to a supervisor...he told me that all credits from all degree are applied to the surcharge. It does not make any sense to me, and he basically told that once you to over a certain number of undergraduate credit attempts regardless of starting a second degree that I would have to pay twice the tuition rate. Aka that would mean everyone in the program would be subject to that because we all have more than 120 credit hours. I'm at the point where I won't worry about it until I pay for tuition because he was the only one who gave me a clear concrete answer and everyone else told me different things. They just ran me around in circles on the phone.

I hope that what you saying is right because $400 something a credit hour would be so expensive! Thank you for replying :)

Hi! As previous post above said, I believe it is per degree. Mine was completed prior to 2009, so the person I spoke with said it wouldn't affect me, but it sounds like the people at USF are even confused about this. Maybe a follow up phone call just to be sure wouldn't be a bad idea.

The guy told me that when you started didn't matter because you are starting a new degree. But I feel like may be we can get more clarification at nursing orientation because multiple people at usf told me one thing and some said something completely different. They pretty much confused me. But I'm sure it will all work out! I started my first degree in 2008, so I'm hoping that counts for something!

Traywill,

I spoke to so many people that I will just wait and see what happens but I definitely agree with you that the there are people at usf that are also confused about it!! Thanks for chiming in - it was super helpful! I'm excited to meet you all next week :)

My understanding is that the surcharge does apply to the second degree students, but only if(1) you began your FIRST degree in 2009 (or later), (2) already have 144 credits or more and (3) completed your first degree in Florida state institution.

Also you can check your status on oasis - it will show whether it applies to you.

And it does not surprise me that you're getting conflicting info from USF staff- some of them just tell you what they think is the best answer - just like with orientation.

Anyway, since you mentioned that you began your first degree in 2008 i think the surcharge should not apply to you.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I'm hoping it doesn't but i guess I will find out soon enough since tuition is due a few days after class starts! Have any of you taken your CPR class yet?
