Just wondering if there are any USF applicants out there? I had a couple questions :)
Hi everyone! I was accepted into the second degree program starting this summer as well! Look forward to meeting everyone on April 11th. FYI...I called the orientation office today and they have opened up more spots for the March 28th date. I was able to register today, so if you haven't, try again and you should be able to. He did say the spots fill quickly, so register as soon as possible.
I had sent an email to see if I could get the March 28th date here is what the reply is.
Hey Elicia
You don't need to attend orientation because you have been accepted into the college of nursing. They have their own orientation seperate from us. I am going to go ahead and cancel your reservation for you. Here is the form for the refund request

What? That doesn't make any sense, because on the CON website it says to attend general orientation first and then nursing orientation because general orientation is required first. One of the nursing advisors at USF that I spoke to today via email confirmed that general orientation and immunizations need to be taken care of prior to signing up for nursing classes.
From the CON website:
[h=3]USF Orientation[/h] If you are a brand new University of South Florida degree seeking student, welcome! You MUST attend the University's General Orientation in addition to the Nursing Student Orientation. You can register for Orientation online at Welcome to Orientation | University of South Florida. It is strongly recommended that you attend the March 28, 2014 USF Orientation to ensure you can register for classes at the Nursing Student Orientation. If you are unable to attend the USF orientation on that date, you may attend on May 8, 2014 but you will not be able to register for classes until that date.
:) that's interesting, isn't it... sounds like yet another example of miscommunication between USF office of admissions and college of nursing. And someone evidently has no idea what the process is. I'm pretty sure that all new students (who have just been admitted to USF) have to attend general university orientation. My understanding is that only those who have been admitted and attended orientation in the past don't have to do it now.
I was confused with this conflicting Information so I did ask him to confirm what he was saying. Here is the reply:
Hi Elecia,
I looked up your information and would like to finally confirm for you that you will need to attend a USF orientation program in addition to the Nursing Student Orientation. You are still coded as pre-nursing in our system which means that you may still need some pre-requisites or that nursing has not fully accepted you into their program yet. For more information on that, you would need to contact the College of Nursing. I apologize for all of this confusion. If you have any questions please feel free to email us or give our office a call. Have a great day!
