Hey everybody,
My name is Laura I just recently got accepted to the FSU Accelerated Nursing Program; however, I am applying to the USF Accelerated Nursing Program for Fall 2014. I am just looking at my options since USF is a little closer to my family in South FL and (most importantly) I heard the program is great!
I want to know if anybody is applying for the USF Accelerated Nursing program for Fall 2014. I am currently finishing up my application essay. Any advice from USF nursing students in the USF accelerated program?
I am looking forward to hearing from all of you!
Laura
Aw no! If you covered the main topics that needed to be addressed then I think you should be fine!
I wrote two full pages for the application, I wrote 5 paragraphs. I had my co-workers read and critique it. It helps to hear other people's POV of your essay. I applied yesterday 5/21/14, I already sent all of my transcripts so let see what they say! :-) Good luck to everyone!
Did you guys apply to other schools?? I applied to UCF but they denied me, however I got into FSU's accelerated program.
Oh I had no idea USF is cheaper than UCF. How do you like USF? Is the area cheap to live in? Cost of living another big deciding factor for where I'll go (Of course getting admitted more so than that lol).
lol yeah UCF estimated cost is around 40,000. When I was at USF I was just focused on school I didn't go out much. It was okay. Some people love it. I was like ahh its just school to me lol. I have been searching for apts!! student living isn't too bad you have some cheap ones from like $419 up for like a 3 or 4 bedroom. But I want a regular apt, house, or duplex with 1 bedroom. So its a little harder to find. USF area is kind of ghetto lol. Try apartmentguide.com and forrent.com
here is my USF email [email protected] if anyone wants to email me for anything. IF we get in which we all should! :)we can ad group or something on FB.
I was looking at apartments and the rent are way cheaper than in the Fort Lauderdale / Miami area by hundreds of dollars and they are in better shape as well. Therefore it would be reasonable to live alone there if you wanted to. . but here you would need a roommate.
where exactly are you talking about when you say "reasonable to live alone there" and "here you would need a roommate" lol
I live next to UCF in a house. The cheapest I ever paid for my rent was $280 since I had a smaller room and shared a bathroom. I had lived in a house with 3 other girls and we shared 4/2. I'm hoping it will be somewhat cheap over at USF as well.
I'm from the Fort Lauderdale area as well (Pembroke Pines) it gets really expensive over there. :-/
I'm in my last semester of the ABSN program. Don't drive yourselves crazy over the statement: they don't want your life story. My professor said she was one of the ones who read the essays, and they read every single one. She said they are looking for people who are motivated. I wrote about how I want to be a nurse practitioner someday, and since I had a background in teaching I wrote I wanted to be a pediatric NP (even though I'll probably be a FNP someday). USF is huge on research, being a leader in your field, etc. They don't want to educate just a bedside nurse. The ones who got waitlisted didn't show enough motivation, they were life-storytellers from what they told me. Write about a nurse practitioner program they have on their website that appeals to you, or public health or something so they visualize you as a long-term student who is going to get a ph.d or something and make them look good in the community.

I know exactly how you felt. . Starring at the computer for hours and only rewording one sentence! I figured I was being obsessive . . If it was meant to be whatever I had submitted will allow them to visualize who I am as a person and if they wanted me there or not. . . maybe one of the vision they will see is that I am not such a strong writer lol! All I know is I tried extremely hard and gave it my all to paint an image of who I am and my passion. .therefore if I dont get accepted I would be bummed but . . At least I know I tried my best and perhaps that person I portrayed in my writing is not what they are looking for. . .
