This is a "sticky" from the nursing student forum. Many sites are useful for pre-nursing, too. If you find one you like, add it.

Here is a "Future Nurse" Acronym (& Abbreviation) List site that was posted in another thread:

Hi everyone... although I'm not exactly new to the medical field I am new

here... after reading some topics I wanted to ask if anyone from Pa would happen to know how long any pre-reqs are good for?? I have already taken all my classes for my nursing degree years ago. But, when my Mother was sick with Lung Cancer I had to put school on hold... I'm worried because the classes are from 98-2000 I think I will be sick if all my hard work is shot down the drain.. I had 4.0 in my A& P classes.... all my sciences are completed & everything but if you now need a language are finished!...can someone let me know if they are in school in Pa... thanks in advance for all your help.

Check the specific school's website for the admissions requirements. For some schools, the A&P, Micro, Nutrition requirements cannot be older than 5 years. The non-science classes can be older (psych, English writing, dev psych, psych, speech, etc.) They will tell you exactly. Do NOT wait hoping that someone will answer you in this forum - they don't know the schools you are thinking of! You've got to go to the websites of the schools you are interested in. If it's not clear form the website, contact the school ASAP (call them for the quickest answer) to find out. You cannot afford to lose the rest of your hard earned credits! Good luck.

thank you Smiles!!!

I actually called Penn State & spoke with admissions & the registrars office. My credits are still valid. The are supposed to be indefinate but, if for some reason they tell me otherwise I will test out if necc. I don't want to loose my GPA its a 3.85 and I'm not sure if I mentioned this earlier but, I was nominated for the Honors Program at our campus for Penn STate so, if push came to shove I would request to speak with the dean & explain my situation. Not sure if that would even be neccessary so I'm going to call again on Monday to make sure my Sciences are ok as well. I do know that at the local community college there is only a 5yr grace period to use them or you have to re-take them... I am going to enroll in the certification class so that before I go back I can at least make more money as a nurses aide. Which stinks because I should have been grandfathered years ago but for some reason in Pa when I was a nursing student before I didn't need to be certified... but, that doesn't help me now... & once that's done I can work at the hospital hopefully... I want to get as much help with my tuition as possible.. I'm already up to 24,000. in student loans... I better finish my nursing degree with all the money I OWE!!

thanks again for your help Smiles!!

take care

Hi Berng720,

Very good. When you do call them and get an answer, ask them to give it to you in writing. There have been too many instances where there was a verbal agreement, but the person moved on or they have no record. You need something in writing to protect yourself down the road. Good luck!

I run a website that has lots of helpful links for both pre-nursing students and nursing students. I also post a NCLEX question of the week. Please feel free to join if you'd like. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dosamigosRN/

I just applied to join -- such a great idea! I hope you don't have to be TOO active there, because I don't know what my school schedule will be like...

The following site has useful study tools for those in anatomy and physiology. They have unlabelled anatomical drawings that you can use for practice. They also have a large bank of histological slides.

This is my first visit to the forum and it is great. Has anyone taken the National League for Nursing Pre-RN entrance exam? At my school you can take it as many times as you like and acceptance into the RN program is based only on the test scores. There are 50 seats once a year. I have taken it 3 times so far and have greatly improved my score. I am taking it one last time for this coming up evaluation and would like any help in the science part of the exam. I am strong in A&P, but weak in chemistry and physics. I have the review book and have taken all of the practice exams. Does anyone have any suggestions...the exam will be Sept. 6. If not, wish me lots of luck!! LOL

Thanks!

Hello Everyone,

I am waiting to start a BSN program at UNLV this upcoming spring and this summer I completed all of my pre-requisites. I had all A's in my sciences. If you need help, dont be afraid to ask. I took General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, General Chemistry, and Organic and Biochemistry. Each one, teach one....let's get through this together. By the way, UNLV has a BSN program that is only 16 months after the pre-requisites. Good luck to you all.

My site is http://www.nursingjourney.com.

Right now, I have lab pics from A&P 1, along with quizzes (including PowerPoint quizzes) which I have made to help me study.

I have pics and/or quizzes for the following: tissues, muscles, bones, nervous system (brain, spinal cord), etc.

Hope it helps someone! :)

All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you. Your quizzes are very good!! It helps to see pictures that are not in a textbook. WOW! I am so happy I came across this. It will be a big help.

You have put so much work into it! :p :p :) :chuckle I have sent the link on to my study group!!

You rock!

Hiya .. I'm in the same boat with my stats course (plus a few others but they are electives and English) but if your credits are still good, I would say just get some refresher help through tutors or whatever. I am not sure what I am going to do (as far as that goes) yet but since my courses are still good, I am not going to take them again unless I have some time to kill.

I know exactly what you mean, though. I can forget a lot in 20 years +. lol Not to mention high school. Have you talked with your faculty advisor? Let us know what you decide!
