USD's MEPN program for Fall 2008

Published

I'm applying to USD (University of San Diego) for Fall 2008. Anyone else? They have a great, but crazy competitive, MEPN program.

yeah i am trying to decide between yale, columbia and usd, so three-year np programs vs. the two year CNL. where are you deciding between?

I would go for the NP. Even though they told us at interviews that by 2015 the NP will need to have a doctorate behind it, I think it's better to get the NP if you can, then you know you definitely h ave credentials to be scooting up to the top in a matter of only a few years. :)

Congrats, everyone! I guess I didn't get an interview since I haven't heard anything. Were you guys notified via email or postal mail?

Hey Kens!

I was notified by e-mail. I would e-mail or call them just to make sure, because you never know! Maybe they aren't finished with their invites yet?

Good luck everyone!!

megonia,

i noticed that you got into yale. did you get into usd as well? i am trying to decide between those two schools...do you have a top choice?

Yeah that makes sense but my boyfriend will be in SD next year which makes the decision more difficult...do you eventually want to go the NP route or would you like to be a CNL?

i got in last week too! i'm planning on going to usd. anyone worried about the CNL degree? i was originally planning on getting my NP.

Congrats! I got in a week and a half ago. They notified me via email and I got my letter last week.

I'm definitely going to USD. Jazzy29- I'm in the Same situation, my boyfriend lives in SD so it was my number 1 choice.

I'm not too concerned about the CNL degree. I know I will eventually pursue an advanced practice nursing degree--just not sure which one (NP or CNS) and which specialty...or maybe an MSRNA.

Well congrats to you all who got into USD! I look forward to seeing you in the fall. Um...where are you all living?

Yeah I know what you mean. I am eventually going to go the NP route after working for a couple of years (despite what they said about the DNP in 2015).

I'm still waiting to hear from UCLA, but I'm hoping to find a place out there after I figure out where I'm going. Hopefully it won't be hard? I tried apartments.com or rent.com something like that to find places close but it's so hard unless you know the area really well. I think I'm going to have to drag my bf down there (he lived in SD for 6 yrs) to help me find a close place that's fairly inexpensive. Are you all living in singles for USD? I hear grad apts are super expensive - on the website they are about $1400/month!!

Does anyone (current, entering) know of a cheap/nice/close place for USD? Recommendations?

Craigslist (www.craigslist.org) is a good place to look for a place. I found rooms for rent with other USD grad students within walking distance to the school (Linda Vista, Mission Valley, USD area) between $400-$800. I didn't look for apartments for rent.

I'm thinking about living in the Mission Valley area which is pretty close to USD (like 5 miles away). The grad school housing looked expensive to me too! Are you guys concerned at all about not hearing about financial aid till after accepting? Also, do we have to send in a deposit with our acceptance? They didn't send us very much information in that letter.

Theyll probably send another package of info after they get their finalized list of the cohort. Ugh that reminds me that I need to do my FAFSA! ahhh!!

I got into USD's Fall '08 cohort also. I think I am going to accept. I am glad to find you guys in here. You're coming from SF?

Any past MEPN students in here?

Specializes in Ortho/Neuro/Trauma.

Past MEPN here, graduating with my MSN in CNL May 08 :yeah:

congrats you guys, it seems like so long ago i was anxiously awaiting that acceptance letter. its a great program, and a huge accomplishment to make it in :nuke:

I accepted the offer today! whooo!

Now, if only we got that email with the list of ppl so we could try to find roommates...?
